Hogwarts Legacy on Switch 2 is mainly notable for its upgrade path, since the game can be moved from a Switch 1 copy to the Switch 2 version for $10 and then played without keeping the original cartridge in place. That makes borrowing a Switch 1 cart from a library or friend a workable route, and the original can even be deleted after upgrading. The main drawback is pricing, since $29.99 for this card is seen as poor value next to cheaper Switch 1 digital sales and the upgrade fee. A useful option if you are focused on the Switch 2 version.

  • The upgrade path can work without keeping the Switch 1 cartridge in place after upgrading from a digital Switch 1 version.

  • Borrowing a Switch 1 cartridge from a library can enable the $10 upgrade and then continued Switch 2 play without the cartridge.

  • Deleting the original Switch 1 version after upgrading to the Switch 2 version can still allow the game to play normally.

  • The game can be a practical option for players who moved from a larger game library to a smaller city with fewer games available.

  • The $29.99 price may not feel like a deal because Switch 1 digital has been seen on sale for $10 with a $10 upgrade option.

  • The Switch 2 upgrade may require the Switch 1 cartridge to be present for play, which can make borrowing approaches unreliable.

  • The cartridge-free upgrade behavior for Hogwarts can be unclear because it is described as a special-case loophole rather than a standard Switch 2 upgrade rule.

  • The franchise discussion can be sensitive because some buyers may want to separate the game from JK Rowling's opinions.

I love how massively successful this game was, in spite of people like you. The next game is going to be huge, too, and you guys will have to cry all over again.

Good point on the pricing.Doesn't the SW2 upgrade require the SW1 cartridge to be in place to play? I don't think "borrowing" is viable. Only exception would be if you started w/the SW1 digital edition.
Borrowing 100% works. I borrowed the Switch One cartridge from the library back when the upgrade was only $10. Haven't needed the cartridge since.

I don't agree with JK Rowling's opinions, but the franchise is beyond her now. Lots of non-famous, working class people made this game and did a great job.

Lots of key card games on sale lately. I guess they aren't selling as well as Nintendo expected. Who woulda guessed? 😏
