How exactly is it better configured? It has a noticeably smaller battery (70Whr vs 99.9Whr), gimped 5070 Ti (115W VS 140W), slightly inferior build quality; if anything, it just has a more powerful processor (Intel Ultra 9 vs 7). Also, neither the new nor the refurb is available anymore for those prices.
I have the previous generation of this laptop with the 4090. I paid a lot more than this (obviously) but it's been the best laptop I've ever used.
Community Reviews
The Legion Pro 7i stands out as a premium 16 inch gaming laptop with top tier build quality, strong thermals, and a higher wattage RTX 5070 Ti. The OLED display, 32GB of RAM, roomy battery, and polished extras like a glass trackpad and better speakers make it feel more upscale than cheaper MSI or Acer alternatives. The main knock is price, since similar or better configured Legion and Acer deals have appeared for less, including models with Ultra 9 chips and 2TB storage. It is a strong fit if you want the nicer chassis and features more than the lowest spec per dollar.
Common Questions (5)
The Legion Pro 7i is positioned as the higher-end option: it has stronger build quality, better thermals, a larger 99.9Wh battery, higher-wattage RTX 5070 Ti, and premium features like a glass trackpad and better speakers. The cheaper MSI/Acer options can save a lot of money, but some are reported with smaller batteries, lower-wattage GPUs, IPS instead of OLED, or weaker build quality.
If you want the premium chassis, better thermals, and fewer reported reliability issues, the Legion Pro 7i can justify the extra cost. The Acer refurb alternatives are cheaper, but they're also described with issues like USB-C controller problems, DisplayPort flicker, random reboots, and limited BIOS options.
Yes, the Legion Pro 7i is described as having a 99.9Wh battery versus 76Wh on the Acer Neo 16S, plus better thermals from Lenovo's Legion chassis. The Acer can be cheaper, but the Legion is the more premium machine for sustained performance and portability.
The main omissions called out are Thunderbolt 4 instead of Thunderbolt 5 and no fingerprint or face unlock. Those are minor for some buyers, but they may matter if you rely on faster dock connectivity or biometric login.
Lenovo's extended warranty is reported to be strong, with onsite tech visits and parts provided for battery and motherboard replacements with minimal hassle. That makes the Legion a safer pick if you want repair support beyond the standard coverage.

I had the same view until I ordered both (Legion and Acer Helios) and Legion is much much better.
Despite the specs, the Legion performs and feels like a tier higher.

I just wish this wasn't that much more lol. Aw well, I don't actually need a laptop.
Walmart has MSI Vector laptop with similar specs for $1299 (new but with 16GB of ram), and Acer frequently has some refurbished alternatives on eBay with 32GB and OLED display for roughly $1350
I got in on that Acer refurb and I thought I was good, but it was not. USB C connection issues with controllers, screen flickering with display port, random reboots. I could have played with it for another week, but sent it back. The Legion Pro 5 that it was replacing, 0 blue screen / random reboots. That's probably why it's $500 cheaper and this is new...
