This is a more premium build than the Gigabyte for $260 at Best Buy. It has a metal backplate, a retention clip, and three fans. MSI offers better support and quality than Gigabyte. This card is a step above the entry level MSI Shadow, which is already better than the entry level Gigabyte WINDFORCE.
With Nvidia raising prices next month and throughout the year, it's going to be hard to find a better deal on a mid-range card than this or the Gigabyte. Forget about 16gb at this price point. Nvidia is expected to cut consumer GPU production by up to 50%. AI demand isn't going away.
Edit: It says x16, but as with all these cards it only utilizes 8 lanes

MSI's Ventus 3X 5060 is being framed as a cooler, quieter take on the RTX 5060, with the larger heatsink, metal backplate, and third fan expected to cut noise and throttling while leaving some overclocking headroom. The card is also described as a solid fit for local AI image work and general entry level use, and the resale value may hold up better than cheaper alternatives. The main knocks are price, since the extra fan and build upgrades may not justify a $30 to $40 premium over lower tier 5060s, and the 8 GB memory starts to look thin as prices climb. The PCIe 5.0 x16 listing is also misleading, since the card runs at PCIe 5.0 x8.
Common Questions (5)
The 3-fan Ventus 3X can run at lower RPM for similar or better cooling, which can reduce noise and throttling. The larger heatsink and 3-slot cooler also give more headroom for overclocking, though the exact noise gap depends on the specific model and fan curve.
At around $250, the plain RTX 5060 is the better value; the Ventus 3X premium is mostly for the larger cooler, metal backplate, and quieter operation rather than meaningful performance gains. As the price moves farther above $250, the 8GB VRAM limit becomes harder to justify versus stepping up to a higher-VRAM card.
The factory overclock is small, but the 3-fan cooler can reportedly support a manual overclock to around 3000 MHz. The larger heatsink and extra cooling are the main reasons it may have more overclocking headroom than the cheaper 2-fan versions.
No retention clip is included on this card. The card is small and light enough that two screws can hold it securely in normal use, but a looser slot fit, inverted mounting, or frequent transport could make the missing clip more of a concern.
No. The listing says PCIe 5.0 x16, but the card actually runs at PCIe 5.0 x8.

Not to mention the heat sinks are massively larger on this model, both in terms of length and 3 slot vs 2 slot size.
For my use case $40 to have as close to a silent GPU as air cooling can provide would be well worth the money. I'm not a big overclocker but if you are, that extra cooling is likely to provide a lot of headroom as well.
TLDR: $40 is going to a lot more than a $6 fan.
Check the review link in OP's description. There are direct comparisons for the 2 vs 3 fan versions in terms of cooling, RPM's, and sound in both performance modes.

Not saying if the 'value' is there for you, me, or someone else, but there are clearly gains for the larger card.
Edit: ended up buying. If I come across a better deal later I can always sell this for the same or more than I paid. I think the extra fan, larger heat sink, upgraded build, and performance switch for quiet mode are all worth the $40 price bump. I imagine I'll continue to survive without 16GB of ram even if the peanut gallery pretends that will suddenly cause the sun to explode.
Funny thing is I rarely game on my gaming PC, I play on my Steam Deck, laptop with iGPU, or retro handhelds 99.9% of the time.....
Also, compared to the $260 Gigabyte which has a 1% overclock, this card has a.....2% overclock. Neither are worth much of anything IMO.
So I would say it comes down to are you willing to spend an extra $30 to get an MSI over a Gigabyte and a full PCIe connector with a retention clip. On top of that, the further we get from $250, the more you need to question the value of getting an 8GB GPU vs spending more to get something with more VRAM. You are basically paying an 11.5% premium to get no noticeable performance gain.
All that being said, that doesn't make this a bad deal. It is still under MSRP which for a GPU in 2025/2026 is pretty much always a good price.

On top of the retention clip they've had major issues with thermal putty (should be fixed now) and PCBs cracking. I would recommend choosing one now. If you don't find a better deal within the return window, you're never going to. I'm hoping to find a deal this month on a 5060 ti 8gb for $300 shipped (or a little more if non-Gigabyte), or a 16gb for $400, otherwise I'll be happy with this for a few years.

To be clear, I have no idea what the noise difference is between these 2 GPUs is, but we would need a review of the specific models to have any meaning.
Also, fan curves can usually be adjusted with or without a switch. Again, I am not trying to sway people one direction or the other. Just trying to share as much information as possible so people can make their own decisions.
EDIT: Am I getting linked to a different review? The review I am seeing is a 3-fan ASUS TUF.

Still I think most of my points apply HOWEVER I do NOT think this MSI card has a fan profile dip switch, but as you alluded to, the ability to adjust fan profiles (or manually tinker with curves) via software should be another way to accomplish the same thing.
I was lucky enough to grab the 5060 Ti variant when it was briefly mispriced at $250. I took some benchmarks and then banged my case around more than it ever would be in actual use and then ran some more benchmarks and had no issues. The card is small and light so the two screws hold in place pretty OK. Is it possible to unseat it? Definitely, I am sure you could if you really tried. Especially if you mounted it inverted. Is it going to become unseated because a cat brushed up against it? Probably not.
That being said, that is just one example, it is possible someone else's PCIe slot is not as tightly fitting as mine. For that matter, if the bracket was mounted at a different spot, it might not hold as tight. It is also possible it could work its way loose over time. Or, if you had a specialized use case where you moved your PC frequently, I can see it being a potential for concern.
However, if my sample is typical, I don't think it would be a problem for most normal cases.

I missed that ti version by seconds lol. Congrats on snagging that. Good to know you tested it and it was ok. I'm not concerned about a cat brushing it. I have a big, clumsy dog, and my cats will fly around like kamikaze pilots knocking things over. It wouldn't be the first thing they've broken.

If you are going $290 may as well go for a $360ish 9060 16 GB. More bang for bit more $$. You arent going to get $30-40 of value for a 3rd fan.
It's not like this is a 400W monster that needs a 3rd fan and a huge backplate.
