Deco management is app only and frustrating at times.

Community Reviews

TP Link Deco XE70 Pro is a tri band Wi Fi 6E mesh system that stands out for easy setup, strong coverage, and stable performance, especially when used with Ethernet backhaul. The hardware is described as working well in mixed wired and wireless setups, and the identical nodes can be placed at the modem or ONT as needed. The main tradeoffs are app only management, no manual channel selection yet, and HomeShield antivirus and parental controls now costing $60 per year. It is a capable mesh option if you want fast coverage more than advanced router controls.

homeowners who want easy setup and strong whole-home coverage because commenters said the system is easy to set up and delivers great Wi‑Fi coverage.
ep4444 BargainBuster
people building a wired-backhaul mesh because users reported stable performance when using Ethernet as the backbone and confirmed you can link the units together with Ethernet if desired.
f2000sa japanesegorilla
households that already have Deco M9 Plus nodes and want to add newer 6E units without lowering the whole mesh's throughput because one commenter said if you make the XE70 Pro the primary router, the XE70 nodes stay higher throughput while the M9+ keeps its existing throughput.
shjaythi
basic users who want a mesh that "just works" for mixed wired/wireless backhaul because a commenter said Deco is usually what they recommend for basic users and that their XE75 setup worked fine with mixed backhaul and adding/removing APs.
szehner32792

buyers who want to mix old and new Deco models freely because commenters warned that if you add new to old tech, the new units may only act as the old tech (especially when the older unit is the primary/main router).
tennislover1234 YourMoneyStinks
buyers who care about manual channel selection because one commenter said the XE70 Pro lacks the manual channel selection they wanted (compared to XE75) and called that a value problem.
Hung0702
people who rely on built-in security features like parental controls and antivirus because commenters said HomeCare antivirus and parental controls are no longer free and are now a $60/year add-on.
westmi
buyers expecting more than 1Gbps on wired backhaul links because one commenter explained the system has only a single 2.5G port and that daisy-chained wired backhaul can limit additional links to 1Gbps.
Hung0702
people who want to avoid app-only management because a commenter said Deco management is app-only and can be frustrating at times.
Ride_The_Sky

The mesh system can be set up easily and can deliver strong Wi‑Fi coverage across a home.
ep4444 BargainBuster
The units can use Ethernet as a backbone and can maintain stable connections in a multi-node setup.
f2000sa japanesegorilla
The satellites are interchangeable and can connect to a modem or ONT using wired or tri-band wireless backhaul.
exotube
When the XE70 Pro units are used as the primary router, the mesh can keep higher throughput on the XE70 nodes.
shjaythi

HomeShield features can be paywalled, since HomeCare antivirus and parental controls may require a $60/year add-on.
westmi westmi
The advertised 4.9Gbps performance is theoretical, and the hardware includes one 2.5Gbps port plus two 1Gbps ports.
Hung0702
Wired backhaul daisy-chaining can limit additional links to 1Gbps, which can reduce real-world speed for some wired setups.
Hung0702
Deco management is app-only and can feel frustrating during day-to-day use.

Common Questions (5)

Yes, it can work with M9 Plus units. If an M9 Plus is the primary router, the whole mesh is capped by the M9 Plus's lower performance; if the XE70 Pro is the primary router, the XE70 nodes keep their higher throughput while the M9 Plus units stay at their own speed.
rajpardi shjaythi tennislover1234 YourMoneyStinks
Setup is described as easy, and the system is reported to provide strong Wi‑Fi coverage. It also works well with mixed wired and wireless backhaul in real homes.
ep4444 f2000sa szehner32792 BargainBuster
Yes. One unit connects to the modem or ONT as the main router, and the other units can use wireless or Ethernet backhaul. All three units are interchangeable, so any one can be the primary node.
ash78 exotube japanesegorilla
HomeShield Basic is included, but HomeShield+ costs $60 per year for antivirus. Free HomeCare antivirus and parental controls are no longer included on these newer routers.
westmi westmi
The advertised 4.9Gbps is a theoretical combined Wi‑Fi figure, not a single-device speed. The system has one 2.5Gbps port and two 1Gbps ports, so wired backhaul or daisy-chaining can limit additional links to 1Gbps, and most wireless devices will not exceed about 2Gbps.

I've tried so many different routers in my home and this one blew the others out of the water. Great Wi-Fi range and coverage.
