Panasonic Eneloop AA batteries stand out for long life, reliable charge retention, and strong performance in high-drain gear like Yale locks, Roku remotes, Xbox controllers, and motion sensor lights. The standard 2100mAh cells are praised for lasting years, with some still working after a decade or more, and the made in Japan packaging adds confidence. The main cautions are price versus IKEA LADDA or other alternatives, and the need for a sensible charger because very fast charging can hurt longevity. The 2450mAh version can also be too thick for some devices, so this is a durable everyday pick if fit and charging speed are handled carefully.

  • Shoppers who need the shortest possible charge time, because slower charging is favored for longevity and fast chargers can run hot.

  • People using a rechargeable dock that charges through a controller USB port, because these batteries may work in the controller but not in that dock.

  • Devices that need alkaline-like voltage behavior, because NiMH cells sit at 1.2 volts and can trigger low-battery warnings in alkaline-designed gear.

  • Devices that need a thicker AA cell, because the 2450mAh version can be slightly thicker and may not fit some battery compartments.

I've been using the ebl brand ones for a few years now and been pretty happy with them. They've seemed to hold up better that the amazon branded ones I used before and are half the price and higher capacity than eneloop... https://a.co/d/fxmXy3H

More voltage runs hotter and lowers the longevity of the recharge limit.
The difference is negligible.

Very strange. The Add to Cart or Buy Now options were giving me an error - not allowed to ship to my location. The Subscribe option was same price and gave me no issues.

What's a good charger for these? Does it matter?
Yes, it absolutely matters. Using a garbage charger can destroy your good batteries.
With Nickel-based batteries, you DO NOT want to fast charge them, because heat is bad and shortens overall lifespan of the batteries.
My go-to recommendation is the Powerex MH-C9000 (either the original or newer Pro version; the newer one is smaller and remembers your last used settings, otherwise they are identical).
With this charger, and SLOW charging my batteries (maximum 200mA for AAA or 300mA for AA), I have only had ONE eneloop fail on me in under 10 years, and can otherwise easily get 12-15 years out of eneloops.
As for specific chargers to AVOID, I haven't seen them around a whole lot lately, but DO NOT buy any chargers from LaCrosse Technology. They may look nice, but were plagued by bad power supply issues that resulted in overheating and in a few cases, fire!

Agreed....quick charging can shorten longevity. I had a lacrosse intelligent charger which allowed me to select a low or high recharge rate amongst other things before it died. I've had this Opus for a few years now and it's been great: https://a.co/d/fsH26r8
With young kids and numerous controllers/remotes/etc, many of my eneloop AAs have lasted 15-20 years.
Count your blessings that the LaCrosse charger just died instead of going up in flames!

I've not seen a NiMH specific Opus charger before (I usually see those in discussions about Li Ion batteries), but it looks similar to my Powerex MH-C9000 but with a more cramped display. Intelligent chargers that let you define the charge rate, and can do break-in/battery analysis tasks are definitely the way to go.

Things to keep in mind about Li Ion AA's vs. NiMH:

NiMH is 1.2V per cell. Using these in a device that demands alkalines will probably work, but will probably start in a "low battery warning" state and hold there for quite a while.

Li Ion... are 3.6V cells. To make a AA cell, they have a buck converter in the cell to drop the voltage to 1.5V. This is how they fudge things and advertise "constant 1.5v output" (and because of this, they don't work well in high drain devices, as their current output is limited to the buck converter's capability).
When you use these in a device that is made for alkalines, they'll show as full, but as they drain, the battery meter might not even be able to warn you of the batteries getting low, as they can jump from 1.5v output to just being dead.
There is no rechargeable battery chemistry that can mimic the exact alkaline voltage output curve from fresh to dead.

Yep! I've bought lots of Eneloop's. Then to save money, I purchased energizer and Amazon batteries and their performance is subpar when compared to the Eneloop's. I just buy these now...saves me headaches.
I can back this up with data, as I track the lifespan of my rechargeable batteries in a database.
With only one exception, all my eneloops have lasted at least 12 years. The Amazon ones I've tried, most failed around the 5 year mark, with just a couple of them making it close to 7.

I don't sit around waiting for my batteries to charge; I have enough of them to have a rotation, and so it really makes no difference how long the slow charge takes, because I'll just take them off the charger in the next day or two and put them in the "charged" battery queue. The new battery "break in" charge mode on my charger can take as long as 3 days to complete, and that does a very slow 16-hour charge (at 0.1C) followed by a drain test, and then another slow charge to report on actual battery capacity. I will always say that maximizing years of service is far more important than getting a quick charge.

For those that need more power from their batteries, I have had good experience with Tenergy... Their Tenergy Premium PRO Rechargeable AA Batteries, High Capacity 2800mAh [amazon.com] are cheaper as well. They work well with controllers and remotes for RCs

I also use their charger [amazon.com]to recharge my Eneloops, and it's been goo as well
I haven't used Tenergy rechargeable AAs myself yet, but have used their alkalines and Li Ion 18650s, and have found them to be a solid brand that works well.

That said--when you get into the "high capacity" NiMH batteries, in general the higher per-charge capacity comes at a cost of a much shorter lifespan of the cell, typically only lasting somewhere in the 5-7 year range, as opposed to standard capacity eneloops easily doing 10-15 years, possibly more.

I have the Powerex MH-C9000 Pro as my everyday charger. I think it's a good charger for Eneloops. I also have Eneloops that are at least 12 years old that I use in motion sensor lights around the house.

I just ordered an 8-pack for $15.15. The deal link initially took me to a page that was charging $23.95 for the 8-pack, but scrolling down to the "customers also bought" section, I was able to find this deal.

I still have functional Eneloops that I bought almost 15 years ago! Good brand.
