Panasonic Eneloop AA batteries stand out for long life, reliable charge retention, and strong performance in high-drain gear like Yale locks, Roku remotes, Xbox controllers, and motion sensor lights. The standard 2100mAh cells are praised for lasting years, with some still working after a decade or more, and the made in Japan packaging adds confidence. The main cautions are price versus IKEA LADDA or other alternatives, and the need for a sensible charger because very fast charging can hurt longevity. The 2450mAh version can also be too thick for some devices, so this is a durable everyday pick if fit and charging speed are handled carefully.

Common Questions (5)

  • They're reported to be better long-term value because they can take about twice as many charges as IKEA LADDA and hold charge far better than Amazon-brand cells. Several comments also note that cheaper alternatives lose charge faster, fit worse in some devices, or develop rust/acid issues.

  • Slow charging is better for longevity because heat shortens NiMH battery life. A Panasonic 3-4 hour charger is described as managing heat well, while very fast chargers can overheat batteries and reduce lifespan; recommended charge rates are around 200mA for AAA and 300mA for AA.

  • The packaging shown on Amazon says they are made in Japan. Long-term reports include batteries still working after 10-15 years, with some sets from 2009, 2011, and 2017 still in use.

  • Yes, they work well in Xbox controllers and in Roku remotes that burn through batteries. One caveat is that the 4K Roku remote appears to have the heavier battery drain, while the regular Roku remote does not seem to have the same issue.

  • In Yale WiFi and touchpad locks, they can last about 4.5-5 months per charge, with one report of roughly a month less runtime than Energizer alkalines. They still provide a low-battery alert about two weeks before dying, which helps avoid lockouts and extra battery changes.

I'm talking to Amazon and they told me it's a prop 65 (California issue). I pointed out that I can buy the same battery in a 4 or 12 packs at a higher price. So, what they are telling me doesn't make sense. It's only the deal I can't buy for these. They also suggested trying another reseller on their app. I'm now holding while they look into it further. I've had this issue on face wash and plastic bags before. No idea why Amazon struggles with this.
I just spoke to them as well. It did not go anywhere for me either. At this point it's not worth the effort anymore lol

I've been getting this message from Amazon lately, especially with on sale items "... cant be shipped to the address you selected" then I have to remove it from cart
Something is off in amazon's system. I got it once on roach traps that didn't even have an insecticide on it and that I had ordered several times at Amazon before. Then Amazon suddenly had no issues letting me buy it again

I usually buy eneloop, but costco last year had a energizer deal with charger , 4 AA and 2 AAA for $10. I'd say it's as good but unsure about comparable longevity
if you youtube it energizers are garbage compare to eneloops.

Energizers are made in China now, not rebranded Eneloops like they used to be. Good luck.
Not all of them . I just bought some at target on sale for $9.99 4pk 2300mah and they are made in Japan. https://www.target.com/p/energize...A-13738820

I put them in the cart as S&S, went to the point of checkout, backed up to the store page, deleted my cart and put them in as a one-time purchase.

This got around the address block.

The price was the same, maybe the seller changed. I wasn't tracking.

I use these in my Roku remote which burns through batteries. I have some Eneloop AA batteries that are 10 years old and are still holding their charge. I also have some Amazon and knock off rechargables that lose charge quickly. In for one!
You using the 4k Roku remote? I had the same issue it's the 4k version if you didn't know. The regular Roku remote doesn't suffer the same issue as far as I'm concerned.

Does anyone know if I can use these in my Xbox S controller and rechargeable dock? Thanks in advance.
I use them for Xbox but not the rechargeable dock. I keep the spares close by and every once in a while a "tactical reload" adds to game immersion

Agreed....quick charging can shorten longevity. I had a lacrosse intelligent charger which allowed me to select a low or high recharge rate amongst other things before it died. I've had this Opus for a few years now and it's been great: https://a.co/d/fsH26r8With young kids and numerous controllers/remotes/etc, many of my eneloop AAs have lasted 15-20 years.
I'm 32 and you have batteries longer than I have had my childhood friends. In for 1 I think 🤔
