Community Reviews
The QM5K stands out as a bright mini LED TV with strong black levels and color, delivering a lot of picture quality for the money. The 65 inch model has been called impressive in stores and solid in SDR, with recent firmware updates and built in Google TV features like art screensavers and news overlays. Audio is also described as loud enough for a bedroom without a soundbar. The main tradeoff is refresh rate, since 4K is limited to 60Hz even though 1440p can reach 144Hz, and the brightness can feel intense in dark rooms.
The QM5K delivers strong black levels and color performance for the money.
The Google TV experience can feel fast during setup, especially when paired with an external streaming device.
The TV can run a bright picture with brightness settings around 40% for comfortable viewing.
The built-in screen saver supports news and weather overlays plus art playback from multiple sources.
The QM5K is a 60Hz TV, so motion performance may not satisfy gaming needs requiring higher refresh rates.
The TV can be very bright and may cause eye strain during certain content playback.
4K gaming may be limited to 60Hz even though 1440p can reach 144Hz.
Audio quality may disappoint in tight spaces without a soundbar, including reports of boxy sound and weak low end.

The brightness is kind of the same way. The higher end TCLs (QM7K/8K/9K) are considerably brighter than this TV. On my QM5Ks, I have the brightness turned down to like 40% (these TVs are like 2-3x brighter than the 5 yr old cheap edge-lit TVs they replaced.) On certain content, it causes my eyes to wince so I'm not sure how folks deal with an even brighter tv. I'm sure it makes HDR content better, but IMO, it looks great on my QM5K (but I'm not super enthusiast.)

Now I just need to do some soul searching on the 85 or 98 TCL options. lol
