The RTX 5060 8GB looks like a budget 1080p card that can also handle some 1440p play with upscaling and frame generation. It is praised for strong value around $260, with real-world reports of smooth performance in games like Horizon Zero Dawn and R6 Siege, plus useful extras like AV1 encode and decode, CUDA, and Lossless Scaling support. The main drawback is the 8GB memory limit and x8 bus, which can hurt newer games, VR, and higher settings. It fits best when expectations stay tied to its price tier.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes for most 1080p play, especially at medium to medium-high settings, and it can also work well when upscaling to 1440p. The main caveat is that many modern and near-future games can fill 8GB, so demanding titles may require lower settings or more compromises.

  • If you can stretch the budget, 12GB or 16GB cards age better and handle newer games more comfortably. At around $260, though, the 5060 sits in a tight price band where higher-VRAM alternatives cost much more, so the choice is mostly about which compromises you want to accept.

  • Yes, it can be a strong value for a non-primary system, with one report of roughly a 50% performance increase for about $280. It is less appealing as a main card if you want to avoid 8GB limits in newer games.

  • It can run higher resolutions in some games, but VR is a weak spot because 8GB can run out and trigger memory errors. At 3440x1440, one report showed about 80-90 fps in R6 Siege and another showed 82 fps average in Horizon Zero Dawn at ultra, so it can perform well when the game is not too VRAM-hungry.

  • Yes. It decodes and encodes AV1, and it also includes CUDA and neural processing features that make it useful for HTPC and home-lab setups.

The XX60 series used to actually be decent. 1060, 2060, 3060 all good cards. Then Nvidia started to make 'budget' XX50 series cards so we got 3050, 4050. Then they decided to sort of shift the entire line up down one, so the 5060 became the new 3050 basically and now the base floor for any type of decent game performance is 5070. I dunno that is how I perceive things anyway. They kinda down shifted everything so people who would normally find a 3060 adequate now need to buy a more expensive mid tier XX70 series to stay afloat.
The tech tubers got you addicted to meaningless numbers. Put the 5060 and 5070 side by side on most games without the numbers on screen, and you won't be able to tell which is which

A 50% difference in raw performance, 50% more VRAM and a bus that 2x as fast.

Everybody is different but I think many gamers would be able to tell the difference. A ~50% performance difference is not insignificant. Or, alternatively, if the performance difference didn't matter to you, there will be a lot of visual options that are completely inaccessible to you on a 5060 that will be available on 5070, especially at 1440p.

I am not the bandwagon that a 8GB cards are useless and should not be bought under any circumstances. However, claiming that most people can't tell the difference between a 5060 and a 5070 is a bit silly I think. That isn't some small difference.

Bought this for my son. Running a 3440x1440 at around 80-90 fps on R6 Siege. Decent card for the price if you set expectations.

Insiders leaking Nvidia is cutting consumer GPU production by 20-30% so this card at this price will probably look pretty good 6 months from now. That being said I would still pinch a few more pennies for a 12gb 5070 or 16gb 5060 ti. Those cards will age much much better.
Agreed about skipping the 8gb model. Just not good enough for anything current (games/ Ai)

The 5070 is a lot more powerful, but it's also a lot more expensive. A McLaren is a lot more powerful than a Hellcat, but it won't make a difference in 99% of the average person's commute. Telling everyone that need to spend twice as much on a GPU that won't make a difference for most people, most of the time, is a disservice.

If you play at 1080 or upscale to 1440, 8 is all you need for 95% of the games out there. Yeah it seems crazy in this day and age but we're in a little bit of a gaming dark ages right now where there's little or no progress in game graphics.
Feels more like a regression with how the big players are treating the consumers

50% difference between 30 FPS and 45 FPS is one thing, 50% difference between 90 FPS and 135 FPS, is another. I think it 'is a bit silly' to just throw out "50%" and think that tells the entire story.

IMO most people can't see the difference between 90 and 135 FPS....in most games. So for those people, $200-300 more might not be worth it for 16GB of VRAM. For those who can see the difference (and know they can), they already know they aren't the "budget" type gamer, so probably aren't looking for advice in the comment section of SD.

FWIW, I was benchmarking my new MSI 5060 8GB OC today with Horizon Zero Dawn 3440x1440 (not 2560x1440) @ ultra....and I was getting 82 FPS average. IMO that was pretty decent in my mind for budget card, a decently demanding game, all ultra settings, and a higher resolution than most people goalpost at. With 2560x1440, I was averaging 99 FPS. Frankly I am super happy I didn't buy a $430 card like others were suggesting I should. In some ways I wish I bought that BB open box AMD for $330, but in another way, I really don't like open box pc components, the fact I don't know why they were returned (or if they were mistreated) would bother me...forever.

Agreed 120%, like I said in my reply to dalto, "50% difference between 30 FPS and 45 FPS is one thing, 50% difference between 90 FPS and 135 FPS, is another. I think it 'is a bit silly' to just throw out "50%" and think that tells the entire story." I also ranted a bit more than that....per the norm.

FWIW, I think dalto means well and at least isn't hating on "the poorz" like some of these JA's are.

In no way was I recommending that people spend twice as much or get a 5070 over a 5060. If that is the impression that my statement gave, it wasn't my intent. In fact, if you read through these threads, you will me doing exactly the opposite of that. To me, these are products targeted at different consumers with different budgets. I think the 5060 is a reasonably good value at this price, at least in the current market.

I was simply responding to the statement that most people wouldn't notice the difference between them. I think that sets a false expectation that you can get the same thing out of this $260 card that you could get out of a $500+ card. That simply isn't true in this case.

I sure can't see a difference in any videos I've seen, but I'm not a gamer, and that's not at 4k.

First, I want to be clear that I wasn't intending to try to push people to a higher card or anything like that. I just want people who make a decision to purchase this card to understand what they are getting. I have repeatedly said that I don't think there is a better value for $260. Yes, there are compromises with this card but you will have compromises at this price point. It is what it is. IMO, to get to a no-compromise 1440p experience you would need to go all the way to the 5070 Ti. That card costs 3x as much. Not many people would be deciding between those two cards in the first place. It is a pointless comparison.

As for the 50%, it really depends on who you are, what you play and what you care about. Some people absolutely care a lot about the difference between 90 and 135 fps. I will be honest, I am not one of those people. I simply don't play the type of games where very low latency will make any appreciable difference and if my priority was visual fluidity, I could get it with FG. What I do care about it, is visual quality so I would spend that 50% upping my quality, not increasing my fps.

Although Horizon Zero Dawn has seen some visual improvements, it is still a 9 year old game at it's core and really isn't very demanding on the GPU.

None of this should say that people can't have a great time and play a lot of games on the 5060. You absolutely can. It is still faster than most of the cards we were playing with in the past. Will you have to make compromises at 1440p? Yes, sometimes. It depends on the game. But....so what? As long as it doesn't bother you to make those compromises, who cares? If you go in within reasonable expectations, you can have a lot of fun with this card playing a huge number of games, including the most recent titles available today. The point of that post, was simply to avoid setting the wrong expectations.

Well, yeah, most people aren't going to be able to see the difference between higher framerates in a compressed steam. Especially when those videos are often not even running at those higher framerates.

Also, there is a latency difference that some people will notice and others won't. I will be honest, I can't feel the latency difference between 90 fps and 135 fps, but some people sure can. But I would notice the visual improvements I could get with a faster card. I will notice higher quality textures and better lighting right away. And visual artifacts from too much upsampling drive me crazy to the point that it ruins my enjoyment. But that is just me, everyone is different.

Again, everyone should enjoy what they have. I don't want anyone to buy a card outside their comfort zone due to FOMO.

Everything is a compromise, including spending more than you may need to. Anyone who knows they 'absolutely care a lot about the difference between 90 and 135 fps' aren't seeking advice in the comment section of SD. They've already set their option in stone, so I agree completely "It is a pointless comparison.' We're shopping for Ford Explorers, not Land Rovers. The Land Rover guy drove right past the Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc dealership and didn't even slow down. He didn't look for someone standing in the Ford parking lot talking about compromises while discussing the features and benefits of the new Defender OCTA.

IMO, the 'my kid just wants to play Fortnite / Minecraft' would they'll likely be far better off saving $200-300 than feeling like they are shorting their kid enjoyment by being pushed to buy something they clearly don't, the ability to futureproof for 2028 AAA games (which clearly they aren't likely to be playing), at a resolution their monitor (likely) doesn't even natively support, at a setting the kid might not even know how to change, is likely a huge waste of money. Same goes for the 'I have $300 to spend' group. They have a budget, if there was a $330 option, maybe discuss that slightly overage. But nearly double? Naw, that is just silly to even mention let alone keep beat the dead horse over.

And yes, I know HZD is an older game, a really demanding older game, that is often used for benchmarking. RDR2 is a another game that people (included GPU mfg's) still use to tax GPU's to their core...it is an 8 year old game. Cyberpunk 2077, 6 year old game. GTAV...13 years old. I tried to pick a known hard to play game with a built in benchmark that I had easy access to. I never suggested it was the best benchmark, but at 3440x1440 and at @ ultra, clearly that bundle of compromises 8GB card was just stretching it's legs. And at my example and at that FPS, I, nor it sounds like you, could tell the difference with that extra "50%" of power the 5070 Ti could throw at it. Therefore would be quite the compromise spending so much more $$$ for little to no noticeable gain.

FWIW, I didn't think you are pushing people to buy a higher end card, on purpose at least. However you seem to be accidently doing so with your long list of cons, and single list of pros ("value") in every thread.

You keep harping on the 50% performance thing but you are completely neglecting any future games. That 90-135 FPS in a decade old game downshifts really quickly when you load up GTA 6 or something next year and it becomes 40-75 FPS. Furthermore that 50% increase in power means a lot when it comes to things like VR gaming. Youre basically gambling here that 8gb ram will be enough for games released in 2027 or 2028 and hey maybe nvidia releases a brand new DLSS and 8gb vram is overkill all of a sudden but I doubt it.
