The RTX 5060 8GB looks like a budget 1080p card that can also handle some 1440p play with upscaling and frame generation. It is praised for strong value around $260, with real-world reports of smooth performance in games like Horizon Zero Dawn and R6 Siege, plus useful extras like AV1 encode and decode, CUDA, and Lossless Scaling support. The main drawback is the 8GB memory limit and x8 bus, which can hurt newer games, VR, and higher settings. It fits best when expectations stay tied to its price tier.

  • The card can serve as a strong upgrade for a non-primary or guest gaming PC setup.

  • The card can decode and encode AV1, which makes it useful for HTPC and home-lab workflows.

  • The card can deliver decent 3440x1440 performance in games like R6 Siege when expectations are set.

  • The card can be a practical secondary GPU when paired with Lossless Scaling for frame generation and upscaling.

  • The 8GB VRAM can limit VR gaming and may lead to dragged v memory errors.

  • The 8GB VRAM can fill up in modern and near-future games, which can tank performance.

  • The card may not be a good primary GPU choice because 8GB can be insufficient for current games.

  • The card's performance uplift may be limited, with reports citing only about a 10% gain and an x8 bus.

So I have a 3060ti 8gb...how much of an upgrade would this be? I'm a very casual and occasional gamer
not much at all. Except for the small VRAM, the 3060ti was overbuilt, a very good GPU. If it had 12gb, it would of have been legendary. So for casual gaming, you wouldn't see a significant bump. The biggest advantage it has over the 3060ti is the multi frame generation but probably not needed in your case..

Is 5060 rtx good for adding to dual gpus?
Absolutely. It's a great secondary if you are using Lossless Scaling. I'm running a 4060 and it does great with frame gen up to 165fps and upscaling to 3440x144p

8gb is kind of a scam for these cards... but could be worse.

Like 10%. Plus it only has an x8 bus. Not worth it IMO.

It's not true in the literally sense that the cards aren't being labeled "EOL" by Nvidia, but given that they're not currently being manufactured due to memory supply issues, that means they won't be getting made until memory supply issues ease up.

Given the state of the memory market right now, that could be in months, but will most likely be in years. So they're effectively discontinued.
Yeah even Apple is having hard time getting RAM for their phones so only expect prices to go up next few years. Anyways, seems dead only seeing $289.99 cheapest on Amazon now.

Just stick to 1080p gaming. I've been playing my old backlog at 1080p 120hz on my 4k TV

Not really. It is roughly the same performance. It has some tradeoffs. A slower x8 PCIe bus but the addition of DLSS4 features.

Personally, there is no way I would "upgrade" from a 3070 to a 5060 unless it was free.

If you play at 1080 or upscale to 1440, 8 is all you need for 95% of the games out there. Yeah it seems crazy in this day and age but we're in a little bit of a gaming dark ages right now where there's little or no progress in game graphics.
It's literally crazy how hard people are going on about 8gb. Of COURSE it would be awesome to have more than that, but the expectation that an entry level 5060 card should run ultra settings at high res is insane. Every benchmark I've seen with the 5060 at med / med-high graphics shows great performance at 1080p. That's the bracket this card is made for.

Med/high 1080p lol, for a 5060, "the bracket it's made for". You're clueless or trolling.

The XX60 series used to actually be decent. 1060, 2060, 3060 all good cards. Then Nvidia started to make 'budget' XX50 series cards so we got 3050, 4050. Then they decided to sort of shift the entire line up down one, so the 5060 became the new 3050 basically and now the base floor for any type of decent game performance is 5070. I dunno that is how I perceive things anyway. They kinda down shifted everything so people who would normally find a 3060 adequate now need to buy a more expensive mid tier XX70 series to stay afloat.

I think may are missing the point on what you can do with this. It is a bonkers card for an HTPC, as it decodes AND encodes AV1. For a home lab, it has neural processing and Cuda cores. If you want to try a dual card setup, lossless scaling. I bought this just to have fun.

There certainly is evidence to support that. For example, the 3060 is 95% faster than the 1060 while the 5060 is only 44% faster than the 3060. It is a bit harder to compare on the AMD side since they shift their model numbers around so much but it isn't really any better over there.

There are two ways to looks at that I guess. One is that they shifted the product line deliberately. Another is that the rate of technology improvement is rapidly decreasing in this area. I suspect it is some combination of both.
