This pre seasoned carbon steel skillet is valued as a lighter alternative to cast iron that can still handle eggs, steak, fajitas, and even camp stove or campfire cooking. The seasoning builds into a strong natural nonstick surface when cared for like cast iron, and cleanup stays easy with hand washing and drying. It also avoids synthetic nonstick coatings. The main drawbacks are the rivets, the lack of a lid, and the need to baby it to prevent rust or warping.

Common Questions (5)

  • Treat it like cast iron: cook with a thin layer of oil, avoid the dishwasher, hand-wash and dry immediately, then wipe on a very light coat of oil before storing. Regular use builds seasoning, while steel wool, acidic foods, and air-drying can strip it and cause rust.

  • Yes. The 8-inch version is used as a dedicated egg pan, and the 12-inch version is reported to make French omelettes better than Made In carbon steel pans. Thorough seasoning helps it develop a strong non-stick surface for eggs and similar foods.

  • Yes. It has been used on a portable camp stove without warping and over a campfire with good results. The pan is also described as lighter than cast iron, which makes it easier to handle outdoors.

  • It is carbon steel with a factory pre-seasoning, not a plastic or ceramic coating. The non-stick surface comes from seasoning that builds up with oil and heat, and it can be renewed if it wears off.

  • It can warp if heated too aggressively or shocked with cold water, especially because it is thinner than pricier carbon steel pans. Medium to medium-low preheating and avoiding sudden temperature changes help reduce the risk.

have the 12in version great pan make sure to season thoroughly and if you cook something like chapati or some pan fried bread it will build an excellent layer of seasoning. I was able to cook french omelettes in these way better than my MadeIn carbon steel pans
