hmm, their AI (rufus) says a gift card is not included with premier. anyone else able to confirm that it also has the $10 gc?
I don't see the $10 gift card on the Amazon TT Premier version either. The BJ's premier version for $64.99 does include the $10 gift card. The $10 can be applied against the State filing fee. So there's that.

TurboTax has an easy "downgrade" option even if someone has paid for it in the past. I don't remember it in the past, but it is there this year at least. So if you used TurboTax in the past, you don't have to type in anything, can use the automatic import of W-2, etc. for the free version. If you qualify and your state participates, you can get federal and state return filings both for free.

I wish the IRS still offered a free filing program, but I was paying for TurboTax in the past and used the free version this year.
TurboTax online actually makes it quite hard to downgrade. If you've already agreed to a higher version this year, you basically have to start over to downgrade. And they push you toward a higher version any chance they get.

What version is needed if you have a 1099
TT Deluxe download will do 1099 income. TT Online, you would need premium.

What is the Costco deal? Downloads only? Was looking to get the CD version. Had one occurrence where I had to load a previous version from a decade ago to reconcile some paperwork.
No more CD versions being produced. Download is the equivalent. Make sure you save the install file, but generally Intuit will not allow you to activate a product more than a few years old. There's a lot of discussion of that on the TT help forums.

I assume you must donwload the software to use these discounts? Meaning if you do it via their website wizard thingy, no discount for you?
This deal is for the download version, which is much more powerful than the online version. For example, deluxe basically does it all, but online will force you to upgrade to Premium for lots of things (investments, rentals, etc.).

I read a comment on the other thread that Deluxe supports both backdoor Roth conversion as well as Income from Rental Property. Can somebody kindly confirm this ? I have been paying extra to buy premier all this time as they had state filing included. Now with this deal I am getting $45 for Federal and state provided it covers ROTH conversion and Income from Rental Property. Sounds like a very good deal but I dont want to get stuck and pay more for an upgrade at the last minute.
Yes it can. I believe premier provides extra guidance on rental properties, specifically related to depreciation.

Desktop version is a better value. Deluxe desktop will do everything premium online does and more. You get 5 federal e-files included (state software included, but state e-file is extra).

Thanks so if I file using just the basic paid (homeowner taking standard ductictions). Don't have state would it be worth it?

No, that is not true at all. Have you actually used TurboTax online this year? Because downgrading is literally 2 clicks.

Well, that's up to you to decide. There are cheaper options out there, including free ones (see the wiki).

I think the value of this software is for those that prefer desktop tax software due to concerns about cloud security or otherwise, have multiple returns to complete, want to use the same software they've always used, and/or want to import their brokerage information directly from their account.

Not this year, but I know they've made it very hard in the past. Especially to get back to the free version. Maybe they've changed, but I'm not holding my breath (or trying it again).

Lots of people bashing Turbotax. I've used it for years with no problems. I used to have a professional tax Accounting agency (CPA's) do my taxes and they made mistakes 3 out of 5 years that required refiling and that's after I brought things to their attention. In all cases the mistakes caused me to have a lower refund. My son is an accountant with the state we live in and he would always bash Turbotax and said to use FREE one's. About a year ago he found a potential mistake in the software he was using to do his taxes but that software didn't provide the worksheets to figure it out. He used my copy of Turbotax to find the right numbers and see what was going on in the worksheets and after that he admitted that Turbotax wasn't nearly as bad as he thought. IMHO you really do get what you pay for when using software like this.
