This Amazon Basics sound deadening mat is a thin butyl foil sheet that works best for reducing rattles and higher frequency noise in cars, cabinets, and other metal enclosures. It can make a trunk, NAS, or metal cabinet noticeably quieter, and the 10 square feet is enough for many smaller jobs. The main tradeoffs are heavy labor to install, careful surface prep, and limited help for subwoofer vibration or permanent door installs. It is also described as less robust than premium damping products, though still useful for extra soundproofing.

  • Car audio hobbyists damping trunk panels, because it reduces rattle and exhaust drone while covering large areas with a small pack.

  • DIY installers treating high-frequency noise in doors, because it adds extra soundproofing after sealing gaps and works best with firm roller pressure.

  • People quieting metal cabinets or 3D printer stands, because the mat makes empty metal shells sound much quieter.

  • People trying to stop subwoofer vibration, because the mat is too thin and flexible to control low-frequency movement.

  • Shoppers expecting serious audio isolation, because this is thin CLD that helps but is less effective than higher-quality alternatives.

  • Renters wanting a removable door fix, because this is a permanent install rather than a temporary treatment.

Can I use it for my front door for privacy?I noticed a lot of the inside noise (like talking, listening to music, etc) is bleeding out into the hallway (I live in an apartment complex). I was hoping to get something to help with privacy, and also prevent noise from the hallway of bleeding into the home (as my dog will sometimes start to bark, and yes we're working on him as well). I was thinking of putting it on the front door and further seal the opening around the door.Another use is, I have a subwoofer, and I don't want it to make too much noise and bother the neighbor below. So can I use this underneath my subwoofer?
No. If you rent, extra no.This is not for a door as it is a permanent install. It's also not going to help a subwoofer. This is good for high frequency noise. It's not good for low frequency vibration. For your door you might get just need door seals replaced. For the subwoofer, no amount of isolation will help much in your setup.

im guessing you mean the sticky side?i dont know, i feel like it works just fine for sealing gaps and the roll is big enough to cover large areas in the trunk.and it doesnt smell, at least not in the trunk at all. and its held up for years.also downside is it is heavy which sucks because racecari am not an audiophile but i can tell a difference. especially putting it on the trunk floor/spare tire area for exhaust drone.
Using roofing materials has been the cheap go to for car audio for years, but it's still a bad idea and yes it smells. The only way I think you aren't noticing is you live in a cold climate or are a heavy smoker or have some other overpowering smell.

For your front door, definitely focus on further sealing the door first. That's where most of the sound leak is coming from. Once that's done, this could provide extra sound proofing, but may not be necessary.

For your subwoofer, this is not thick and dense enough. This is designed to be thin and flexible enough to install in cars. For a subwoofer, you'd want something more like those interlocking rubber floor tiles you see in weight rooms

its not a bad idea if its the ONLY idea lol. as i said i use it to seal and fill gaps (as part of an inclosed trunk).

and no it doesnt smell like asphalt or some kinda toxin......it DID initially but its been years and to this day if i pop my trunk i dont go OMG ROOFERS ARE HERE lol....

Are you just guessing? Sounds like you had nothing to back up your facts.
