This Amazon Basics sound deadening mat is a thin butyl foil sheet that works best for reducing rattles and higher frequency noise in cars, cabinets, and other metal enclosures. It can make a trunk, NAS, or metal cabinet noticeably quieter, and the 10 square feet is enough for many smaller jobs. The main tradeoffs are heavy labor to install, careful surface prep, and limited help for subwoofer vibration or permanent door installs. It is also described as less robust than premium damping products, though still useful for extra soundproofing.
Common Questions (5)
It can reduce trunk rattle and exhaust drone, especially on the trunk floor and spare-tire area. It is better at high-frequency noise and general panel damping than at low-frequency subwoofer vibration.
The pack provides 10 square feet total, which is enough for many smaller jobs like a trunk, cabinet, or a few NAS panels. It is less economical per square foot than larger 36-sq-ft packs, but the smaller amount can still be a good buy if you only need limited coverage.
It is not a good choice for a permanent door install, and it will not do much for subwoofer vibration. It works better for sealing gaps and damping thinner panels, while door seals or thicker rubber materials are better for low-frequency problems.
It can smell initially, but the odor may fade over time and some installs report no noticeable smell in the trunk. Using it inside enclosed areas can raise drive temperatures, so it is better suited to exterior panel damping than heat-sensitive internal installs.
Installation is labor-intensive, and prep matters as much as the install itself. Clean the surface well, apply it evenly, then use a roller or firm pressure to remove air and improve adhesion.

Like many things the prep work is as hard, or harder, than the install.
So yea clean any surface well, roll on even, and then press/roll it to get all the air out and pressure to it.
This amazon CLD isn't great either. it's very thin and not thick quality like the competition. It will help, just not as effective.
i dont know, i feel like it works just fine for sealing gaps and the roll is big enough to cover large areas in the trunk.
and it doesnt smell, at least not in the trunk at all. and its held up for years.
also downside is it is heavy which sucks because racecar
i am not an audiophile but i can tell a difference. especially putting it on the trunk floor/spare tire area for exhaust drone.

I noticed a lot of the inside noise (like talking, listening to music, etc) is bleeding out into the hallway (I live in an apartment complex). I was hoping to get something to help with privacy, and also prevent noise from the hallway of bleeding into the home (as my dog will sometimes start to bark, and yes we're working on him as well). I was thinking of putting it on the front door and further seal the opening around the door.
Another use is, I have a subwoofer, and I don't want it to make too much noise and bother the neighbor below. So can I use this underneath my subwoofer?
i went to home depot this morning to see if i can find it but didnt see it there. ill go to lowes and check it out. i remember it was in the roofing area in the back corner of the store.
ill post a picture in a lil bit what it looks like in my trunk.
its literally a sort of thick foil backed by really sticky black stuff.
