They will both get the job done for the vast majority of people. I think the reason people choose this is that it's not in the cloud, supports importing directly from brokerages (FTUSA imports via PDF), and familiarity. You can also do multiple returns with this software. H&R Block will charge you extra to e-file the state, but you can print and mail it for free (or use your state's website in some cases). Some people also just refuse to trust anything that's free or unusually cheap. If you don't need or want those things, FTUSA will be cheaper. Cash App Taxes is even cheaper (free federal and state) but has a few more limitations.

The use case is traveling, when you're connecting to different WiFi networks where you don't know anything about the ISP or if they are trustworthy. When you're at home connected to your own ISP I would agree that it's not necessary.

For example I could sit in the airport and broadcast an open WiFi network called "DeltaFreeWiFi". When someone connects to it without a VPN, I can intercept their website requests and return fake pages under my control to harvest login information. I can do these unnoticeable redirections because I also control the DNS service on my network.

I would subscribe to NordVPN if it would auto-skip all the youtube NordVPN sponsorships.

NordVPN deal is already there.
Yep, thanks. I ordered it as soon as I saw this deal posted. I meant that I had been hoping that this deal would come back and I'm glad it did.

If you already have NordVPN, will this allow you to add this time to the end of your current subscription?

Why do people use that? Is it just so you can stream stuff that is region-locked?

From a "privacy" perspective, it seems like you're just trading the trust from your ISP to your VPN company.

Im confused about the state. This includes a federal file and state file? I only have 1 state to pay. the fine print seems to make it sound like the cost to efile state is 19.95 per return.

Includes state software, which allows you to complete the state data entry and calculation, which you can then print and mail for free. E-filing the state is extra (5 federal e-files included). Yes, super confusing until you've used the software a few times. TurboTax does the same thing.

Some states will let you e-file directly with them, although it's a bit more work: https://thefinancebuff.com/free-e...irect.html

What's so confusing? It includes 5 free fed efile but NO free state efile.

It gives you access to PREPARE one state tax return. You can then print that out and mail it in, or pay $20 to e-file. Federal e-file is free/included.

Do all the add-on packages have auto renewal?

Also, which anti-virus of the add-ons is best?

Thanks,

Eddie

I believe e-filing for NY is free, as state law requires no separate fee for NY e-filing when using approved software such as H&R Block.

Note that state returns are $15.99 for FTUSA.

Seems like the $24.99 for the H&R Block Deluxe + State seems to be the lowest base price this year. With or without addon bundles. The $24.99 price is up a bit from prior years were it usually was around $19.99 to $21.99. Jumped on the NordVPN Basic 1 year H&R Block Deluxe + State bundle this year.

PS: While most states will charge for state e-file, NY and if I remember right one other state were free. Some states will have their own online site where you can file for free after manually inputting the information. Been printing out the H&R Block Deluxe state form for the past several years and manually entering the state form's info into my state's online tax filing website to file for free.
