This open box Zephyrus G14 stands out as a thin 14 inch OLED gaming laptop with strong portability, bright and color accurate 3K 120Hz display, RTX 5060 graphics, Wi Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. The build quality and premium form factor draw praise, and the USB C DisplayPort output helps offset the lack of a full size display port. The main drawbacks are soldered 16GB RAM, which cannot be upgraded, no number pad, and open box warranty and accessory completeness concerns. Fan noise can get very loud under load, making it a compact but not quiet gaming machine.

  • buyers shopping open-box who want OLED plus a strong GPU for light gaming because commenters say the OLED is bright/color-accurate and that the RTX 5060 is sufficient for light gaming at the ~$900-$1k price range.

  • home users who don't need a dedicated number pad because commenters note you won't find a dedicated number pad on a 14-inch laptop, so the lack of one won't be a dealbreaker for that use case.

  • travelers who want a 14-inch gaming laptop because a 14 inch is described as a portability sweet spot for using and traveling more than a 16-inch model.

  • people who are specifically buying open-box and worry about tampering because one commenter says soldered RAM reduces the risk that someone stole RAM sticks before returning the unit.

  • buyers who need Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 in a thin laptop because commenters point to that feature combo as evidence it isn't using bottom-tier components.

  • gamers who want upgradeable memory because multiple commenters say the 16GB RAM is soldered/non-upgradeable and "kills" the deal for them.

  • people who run heavier workloads or expect more than 16GB because commenters say "16gb just isn't enough" for their needs and that 16GB is short for today.

  • buyers who want long warranty coverage on an open-box ASUS because commenters warn ASUS open-box is treated like refurb with only about a 90-day warranty (and advise verifying).

  • buyers who expect the RTX 5060 to meet gaming expectations because one commenter questions the "good enough for light gaming" claim and implies it may not perform as expected for gaming.

  • buyers who rely on a standard full-size DisplayPort because one commenter says "No display port kills this deal," even though they later clarify it's available via USB‑C.

  • people who are sensitive to fan noise because one commenter says the fan is very loud (compared to a Dyson vacuum) during gameplay.

Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. At least you know they aren't shoving bottom of the barrel components in there and pushing them out the door. This will probably be a very good choice for someone looking for this combination of features.
The radios are MediaTek (Intel does not allow their radios to be shipped with AMD CPUs) and is not a good card.

The sad thing is Intel's track record is no longer spotless in that segment. They have shipped a couple stinkers.

Medicore deal. Previous model with 7940hs was at this price level many-many times. Ryzen 270 is renamed 7840-7940hs. The only small upgrade is 5060 vs 4060. And 16gb ram is very short these days. I recommend add like 100-150$ and buy less premium laptop with better specs. There is nothing so special about Asus zephyrus line - i own G16 5070ti 2025.

Also allows for much higher clock. Ram on this runs at 7500mhz vs the 5600mhz you get with standard sodimm ddr5.
Yup. SO-DIMM form factor isn't tight enough for the LPDDR5X clocks. Though they're trying to bring LPCAMM2 removable LPDDR5X modules to market so hopefully we're not stuck with soldered RAM in the future.

Reddit owners experience shows these are a bad choice. Quality and RMA issues well documented.

For the 2025 model or for all models?

Asus has a terrible reputation when it comes to warranties, and with this being open box you'll only get just 3 months of coverage from them. If you do decide to get you should pair with either Total membership or extended warranty through BB.

As for quality, many complain about the hinge being poor/creaky (which they allegedly improved with the upcoming 2026 model), and some have reported their units going awry/crapping out within a year of ownership, which ends up with them having to deal with Asus.

I briefly had this laptop for a bit (and enjoyed it), but ended up returning once I experienced how underwhelming 8 gb VRAM was with modern games. I have since gotten an Asus ROG G700 pre-built PC, which I hope will give me less problems/meet my needs. I would have waited to see how the 2026 models turned out, but was worried about price increases.

"Excellent" should includes all parts and accessories.
I purchased twice from BestBuy, a "fair" one had no charger,
and a "good" one came with charger but no original box.

I got the 1299 deal in December and love it. Amazing quality, bright and very color accurate tendem oled and, for me 5060 is good enough for light gaming and it came with 3 months PC game pass. I would say if the previous onwer haven't redeemed the free XGP you probably can still get it in the microsoft store.
"5060 is good enough for light gaming", are you kidding me?
