16GB is the new 8GB. Not for any price would I buy a gaming rig with 16GB soldered

This open box Zephyrus G14 stands out as a thin 14 inch OLED gaming laptop with strong portability, bright and color accurate 3K 120Hz display, RTX 5060 graphics, Wi Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. The build quality and premium form factor draw praise, and the USB C DisplayPort output helps offset the lack of a full size display port. The main drawbacks are soldered 16GB RAM, which cannot be upgraded, no number pad, and open box warranty and accessory completeness concerns. Fan noise can get very loud under load, making it a compact but not quiet gaming machine.

buyers shopping open-box who want OLED plus a strong GPU for light gaming because commenters say the OLED is bright/color-accurate and that the RTX 5060 is sufficient for light gaming at the ~$900-$1k price range.
VioletWing681 Manylander1 Aznline
home users who don't need a dedicated number pad because commenters note you won't find a dedicated number pad on a 14-inch laptop, so the lack of one won't be a dealbreaker for that use case.
FreeCake tsuperwanker
travelers who want a 14-inch gaming laptop because a 14 inch is described as a portability sweet spot for using and traveling more than a 16-inch model.
YourMothersRoomMate
people who are specifically buying open-box and worry about tampering because one commenter says soldered RAM reduces the risk that someone stole RAM sticks before returning the unit.
Slick_Drone
buyers who need Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 in a thin laptop because commenters point to that feature combo as evidence it isn't using bottom-tier components.
RogueVariable

gamers who want upgradeable memory because multiple commenters say the 16GB RAM is soldered/non-upgradeable and "kills" the deal for them.
boosterjm polyspecific
people who run heavier workloads or expect more than 16GB because commenters say "16gb just isn't enough" for their needs and that 16GB is short for today.
Tenny FairPollution5559
buyers who want long warranty coverage on an open-box ASUS because commenters warn ASUS open-box is treated like refurb with only about a 90-day warranty (and advise verifying).
magbarn SirScot
buyers who expect the RTX 5060 to meet gaming expectations because one commenter questions the "good enough for light gaming" claim and implies it may not perform as expected for gaming.
TedfromBR magbarn
buyers who rely on a standard full-size DisplayPort because one commenter says "No display port kills this deal," even though they later clarify it's available via USB‑C.
eduardmc
people who are sensitive to fan noise because one commenter says the fan is very loud (compared to a Dyson vacuum) during gameplay.
VioletWing681

The RTX 5060 can be sufficient for light gaming workloads in real use scenarios.
VioletWing681 VioletWing681
The laptop can deliver bright, color-accurate OLED visuals for an enjoyable display experience.
VioletWing681
The device provides DisplayPort output through USB-C for external monitor connectivity.
JasonT27
Soldered RAM can reduce the risk of missing RAM sticks after an open-box return.
Slick_Drone

The laptop uses soldered 16GB RAM, which limits upgrades and may feel insufficient for some needs.
Tenny boosterjm
The open-box warranty can be limited to about 90 days, so coverage may be shorter than expected.
magbarn SirScot
The MediaTek radios may be a concern for buyers who prefer Intel-compatible radio options.
jcom86
The fan can run very loud during gaming, which can reduce comfort in quiet environments.

Common Questions (5)

No. The 16GB LPDDR5X RAM is soldered, so it cannot be upgraded later. That makes the configuration a better fit if 16GB is enough for your workload, especially since the memory runs at 7500MHz.
Tenny BoastfulKite9143 boosterjm loveless13
It is enough for light gaming and can reportedly run Assassin's Creed Shadows around 60 fps on mid-low settings. The tradeoff is loud fan noise under load, and some buyers may still find 8GB of VRAM limiting for newer games.
VioletWing681 VioletWing681 SirScot TedfromBR
ASUS treats open-box units as refurb, so coverage may be only 90 days from ASUS. It is worth checking whether your credit card or Best Buy extended warranty can add protection.
magbarn KeithK2933 SirScot
Yes, it has DisplayPort output through USB-C. That addresses the missing full-size DisplayPort concern while still giving you an external monitor connection.
eduardmc JasonT27
An "Excellent" open-box unit should include all parts and accessories, including the charger. Lower grades can arrive missing items such as the charger or original box.

I used it to play Assassins Creed Shadows, in mid-low setting and it runs at 60fps most of the time. Good enough for me. The only downside is the fan will sound like a dyson vacuum..
