Costco doesn't stack with FREEPAGES, but you can adjust the promos to combine 40%, free pages, and free Costco shipping. If you're going with the basic book, the 40%+FREEPAGE breakeven is just a couple pages extra; if you're going to be adding lay flat, glossy, 6 color printing, matte cover and the like, the break even will be up around 15-20 extra pages as the Costco discount on those extras tips the balance (at the 11x14 size, probably more with a smaller book).

FWIW, we got the 11x14 for my in-laws to commemorate a trip we took to Scotland with them. They opened it on Christmas morning and were all "Oh, look, a book on Scotland* [Underwhelmed Present-Face smile]" We had to make them open it and flip through to see that it was *their* trip that was in the book, at which point they were absolutely thrilled. It took a good 4-5 hours to put together (including some custom graphics) but the product results was really impressive. We've done smaller - 8x10 I think - in the past, and the larger size really makes the book feel more like a professional coffee-table volume.

*I take this as a relative compliment to my cover photo, which could have been on a generic tourist book to Stirling.

Reminds me of when I got my wife custom socks with our dog's face on it. At first she's like oh a dog sock cool. I'm like no that's OUR dog.

I've done books for our family reunion for over a dozen years. I take the collection with us each year and the heartfelt joy is immeasurable. The kids especially look to see how many photos include them 😂. We have family from across the country attend. 2 years ago we lost the last member of my parents generation and sadness was softened by perusing through the older books and seeing all the joyful times we had together.

I make a family year photobook every year with shutterfly. I'm ready to pull the trigger on the 2025 book. Seems like Costco and these stacked are the same price for me. Since I go standard layflat.

I always appreciate when someone posts Shutterfly deals, even though I get their email notifications. I had read the question someone had asked - can you save a designed book as a PDF. Simple answer - yes, but it's some work. Did that for the 100+ page I made for my daughter.

I did a careful screenshot of each 2-page spread and saved each as a numbered JPG (or preferred format) in Paint in a separate folder. So, I had over 50 images.

In Microsoft Word, I started a blank document as narrow margin landscape.
'Insert Pictures' from This device - Pointed it to the folder, highlighted all the images in the folder (I numbered them in order), clicked Insert.

if everything looks right,
File
Export
Double-click Create PDF
Give it a name and location to save.

Yes, it took some time.
Shutterfly has a method of sharing the project and it works well, but some people are not savvy with the process, so, in order to encourage friends and family to order a book, this helps - they can see what a wonderful tool Shutterfly employs to make treasured books to last a lifetime.

I order multiple books each year for family and friends. The appreciation is huge.

Also, since I like to use the same format for certain events, when I've created a book, I'll save an additional copy with a name such as 8x11 Template and choose to remove all of the photos - leaving a relatively blank slate to speed up the process next time.
