Just FYI, if you buy the TT deluxe (desktop version), it will offer you a FREE upgrade to the TT *online* Premier version. A much cheaper way to get the premier online version.

At least historically, the Deluxe desktop version of TurboTax handles investment properties and stock sales just fine. Although Intuit is not exactly forthright in their marketing, the truth in past years (including last year) is that the Deluxe has all of the interview questions you need in order to do both investment properties and stock sales etc. The only difference between Deluxe and Premier has been that Premier includes a bit more explanation. Most people - even those targeted for Premier - will not find any significant difference between the two desktop products.
There are also those who like FreeTaxUSA and H&R Block. I've not tried the first, and my personal experience is that HRB is not as robust when you start getting into more complicated situations (K-1s, income from multiple states, complex depreciation, etc.). So I have always come back to TurboTax (grudgingly) but I don't buy anything more than the Deluxe.
P.S. There is a difference between Turbotax Desktop and on-line. For on-line, they do have different interviews available for Premier that are not available in Deluxe and if you were doing on-line you would need more than Deluxe. That said, for somewhat complicated (or more complicated) taxes, I have found the Desktop product to be more robust and you can see the forms themselves. IMHO, it's a better product.

I have done Section 1031 exchanges recently and further into the past. I will not trust the Deluxe version to perform the necessary calculations. Premier seems to handle it fine.
Also, Depreciation Recapture calculations seem to work on Premier - even though it costs me serious $$$.

For the small difference in price, I would rather have peace of mind.

I got burned one season by the online version and had to buy the desktop to address the issue. Haven't gone back since then.

IDK what this "upgrade to online version for free" nonsense is all about, but it said I would only get 1 free federal and state eFile vs the 5 I get with desktop. No thank you.

Thank you. I've always purchased premier because I thought I wouldn't be able to handle our investment property deductions and stock sales. Will get deluxe this year. Might as well save some money on this because Intuit made me upgrade my computer. I hate windows 11

Deluxe is not as user friendly with regards to stock and rental. Also if you have quotations like fifteenth between 1099-misc and 1099-nec the help option is not as clear for deluxe users. There's often a lot of legislative changes that you need to be aware of.
