Yeah its surreal...what used to be shady stuff with people trying to get away selling what they can is now mainstream...what's more we now have startups popping up trying to 'extract value' from brands opting to sell items to bulk resellers apparently to cash in on the discounts...the balance of power is now firmly away from the consumer...the premise of the internet is all but gone..

Is this meant to be sarcastic? Old Latitudes, especially the 7xxx series, always sell at a premium to 100% plastic ewaste consumer grade laptops with low color gamut LCD screens. Might not be the best price but it's entirely within reasonable range.

Used laptops are going to rapidly disappear. Owners are taking out the RAM and SSD and selling them. Those are worth more than the entire laptop.

Latitudes aren't 'budget' laptops, they're geared for business use and generally hold up quite well over time.

Take the fearmongering nonsense elsewhere.. this and most other 'ultraportable' laptops have soldered RAM.

I don't think so. I just checked older slower DDR4 SODIMMs on ebay and they are actually selling at pretty reasonable prices.

Indeed. People are saying some nonsense things these days. AI is driving up a lot of things to crazy prices, but pairs of 8GB DDR4 SODIMMS ain't one of them.

An i7-1185 laptop with TB4 and 16GB was significantly far from being just a "budget" laptop. These were upper tier ultrabooks and the price is <25% what these originally retailed for.

Since when were latitudes(business-grade dells) considered "budget laptops"?

I have one of these and they are generally very popular with price-conscious consumers because they frequently have detailed repair/maintenance instructions for upgrades/repair. They aren't glued.

Consider yourself lucky. There are a lot of problems with Dell Latitudes these day - they're not the computers they were 6+ years ago.

The Type C connector for the power adapter is a major weak spot. It's soldered to the motherboard, but the connection is easily damaged. Once it's damaged, there's nothing you can do. With the older barrel adapters, there was a DC in-cable that also could fail (not often), but you could replace it.

The plastic they're using for the Latitude top & bottom case is very brittle. It's easily damaged.

Some Latitudes - not all - have soldered RAM. You have to read the specs carefully over at Dell.com to determine whether this is the case.

Dell Refurbished also isn't delivering the same product they delivered 6+ years ago. I've received Latitudes from them in recent years with the fan caked with dirt. I returned two like this - they're not even making an effort to inspect the computers, let alone truly "refurbish" them.

I've experienced various other problems with these computers, although the problems with the Type C connectors for power failing has occurred in several.

I kept trying with Dell Latitudes probably long after I should have, but after a series of failures with several computers, I'm pretty much done with them. Cannot recommend them any longer.

Latitudes used to be very good - I'm still occasionally using a Latitude I got in 2016. It's slow, but it's solid. The plastic in the case isn't brittle - not breaking at all. I wish they were still built that well.
