If you're after better standalone performance, deeper sound, and more connectivity features, the Sonos Era 100 is the superior choice overall. If you want a solid, budget-friendly Sonos speaker that integrates well with a larger setup, the Sonos One SL is still a very capable option.

What specific issues are wrong with the app? I purchased the Arc Ultra, Sub Gen 3 and a pair of Era 100s and the app as worked fine for me with zero issues.

Will this speaker work over bluetooth without the Sonos app? Sonos has a history of bricking their own devices by removing app support for them after a couple of years

The details indicated that it has AirPlay 2 on Apple Devices iOS 11.4 and Higher- does this mean I can't get it to synch with my other devices?

When an AirPlay-compatible Sonos product is playing AirPlay audio, you can group it with any other Sonos product in your system for multi-room playback.

This article indicates that the Sonos One SL is airplay compatible as well. My speaker should arrive today, and I'll confirm!

Update - I received my device, and I am able to airplay to it, and once airplay is associated, I can get the rest of my old legacy devices to also play what is being sent via airplay.

They didn't brick any devices.
That was a plan at one point, yes, but they backtracked very quickly and wound up creating a separate app for the older devices so they are still able to be used.
Based on the reaction to that plan and their quick reversal, it's highly unlikely they'd ever tried it again.
