These Bose QuietComfort refurbs are mainly praised for strong noise cancelling, light comfort, and a more balanced sound than older Bose models. The physical buttons, deep ear cups, and app EQ add to the appeal for music, podcasts, desk use, and long flights. The main cautions are that the ANC is not as strong as the Ultra version or some Sony rivals, and the model can be confused with the Ultra. There are also concerns about missing accessories and whether the advertised Bose warranty is actually honored through Woot, making this a solid midrange ANC option with some buyer diligence needed.
The newer Bose QC model can sound more balanced out of the box than earlier versions.
The headphones feel extremely light for all-day desk wear and can fit big heads and ears comfortably.
The sound quality can work well for music listening, with a slightly bass-forward tuning for enjoyment.
The ANC performance can be very strong for everyday listening, and it is described as among the best in the industry.
The deal can be misleading if the listing is actually the non-Ultra QuietComfort model instead of the Ultra version.
The ANC cannot be fully turned off, and it forces a choice between ANC and transparent mode.
Phone conversations can suffer because the headphones pick up surrounding noise during calls.
Warranty coverage can be problematic when buying from Woot, since Bose reportedly refused to honor the advertised 1-year manufacturer warranty.

Get what you pay for sometimes...
My read was focused on the ANC section which was pretty mediocre. Even the Airpod Pro 2 or 3 have more sound attenuation according to their tests...

It's a good deal for ANC in the $1xx range, but I was looking for more out of my headphones. I want ones that will last me 5 years instead of just 1-2.
RE: the faux leather coming off after repeated use - you can buy slipcovers for your headphones that will prevent those plastic bits from getting on you. My wife sews her own slipcovers for her headphones. Makes them last longer.

XM5 may be better in some ways, but has a huge durability issue with the hinges that make them a non-starter for me. I can't say I've heard many of the Bose QC headphones with broken hinges and they've used the same basic design for a decade or more on this model.

The Ultra is obviously going to have higher fidelity, which you might notice more with the treble, but for most listeners, the difference won't be obvious. I'd say noise cancelling is also similarly a small step down but still very, very good - think 82% as opposed to 87% effectivity.
One thing that this version has over the Ultra is the physical buttons. The Ultra's touch buttons are 1st gen and it feels that way. It can be a pain in the rear just trying to make small adjustments to the volume.
Overall, if you're an audiophile and need the absolute best-in-class noice cancelling, then go with the Ultra. If you're more of the average user and are looking for still very good, base forward listening and still excellent ANC, then go with these. Personally, I went with these.
