That is currently an unrealistic deal.

Mediocre review for this modelhttps://www.soundguys.com/bose-qu...iew-99695/
It should be noted that the guy reviewed them at 330$ and that his primary con was the price.

My read was focused on the ANC section which was pretty mediocre. Even the Airpod Pro 2 or 3 have more sound attenuation according to their tests...

Get what you pay for sometimes...

I have to agree. I literally went to a B&M store yesterday evening and tried on the Bose QuietComfort, Ultra, and Sony WH-1000MX5. Bose felt nice on my head, but both the audio fidelity (namely bass) and the ANC were inferior to the Sony brand. I bought the Sony at retail.
It's a good deal for ANC in the $1xx range, but I was looking for more out of my headphones. I want ones that will last me 5 years instead of just 1-2.
RE: the faux leather coming off after repeated use - you can buy slipcovers for your headphones that will prevent those plastic bits from getting on you. My wife sews her own slipcovers for her headphones. Makes them last longer.

Devil's advocate here: Once you get to this level, the differences in ANC for real-world usage are probably going to be minimal when actually playing music / watching a movie etc. All of these do an excellent job compared to what was considered to be the high end of a decade back.

There is a basic EQ within the app that helps with sound quality.

XM5 may be better in some ways, but has a huge durability issue with the hinges that make them a non-starter for me. I can't say I've heard many of the Bose QC headphones with broken hinges and they've used the same basic design for a decade or more on this model.

These can be had on sale pretty regularly for $30-40 more. If these were $100 or less I could see pulling the trigger.

This model had a major sound tune up from all previous versions , Bose sound in the past used to be known as LIVE performance balanced, focused mostly on the mids - I hated it, it was impossible to crank up the highs and the lows even with the custom EQ. With this model it was a big change for the better, they sound much more balanced out the box and can sound great with some tune ups. Bose ANC technology is some of the best in the industry, Im still at awe what it is able to do. They are extremely light weight , great for all day wear at the desk, but not great for work outs, it moves around too much and leather ear cups with sweat makes it worse. Def not the best choice for any type of work out. Fits big heads and big ears no problem.

These headphones are great for listening to music. Not so much when having a conversation on the phone. They capture all the surrounding noise. Just an observation.

I would not recommend them at this price point.

Is it a good price considering a 3-year-old model and refurbished?

This one or wait to pay a bit more on ultra? Never had a bose before, want to use gym and plane
Sound on this one is very good, if a little base forward which makes it great for the gym. It's also very comfortable and has deep ear cups which make it great for long plane trips too.
The Ultra is obviously going to have higher fidelity, which you might notice more with the treble, but for most listeners, the difference won't be obvious. I'd say noise cancelling is also similarly a small step down but still very, very good - think 82% as opposed to 87% effectivity.
One thing that this version has over the Ultra is the physical buttons. The Ultra's touch buttons are 1st gen and it feels that way. It can be a pain in the rear just trying to make small adjustments to the volume.
Overall, if you're an audiophile and need the absolute best-in-class noice cancelling, then go with the Ultra. If you're more of the average user and are looking for still very good, base forward listening and still excellent ANC, then go with these. Personally, I went with these.
