What might not be obvious with the flashing program is that you should first backup the existing firmware settings, and you can then make those same settings on top of the updated firmware.

This compact ORICO M.2 NVMe enclosure stands out for low-cost portable SSD use, especially quick file transfers and repurposing old drives. Performance is described as surprisingly strong for the price, and a firmware update can make a dramatic difference, with one report jumping from about 30 MB per second to about 450 MB per second. The main cautions are heat during long writes or continuous use, plus a fiddly cover screw and a board that can slide out too easily. It is a small, handy enclosure, but firmware and thermals matter.
Common Questions (4)
It can get extremely hot during prolonged use and read/write speeds may drop, so it is better suited to intermittent file transfers. Another report says it has worked as a file/media server with a 4TB WD NVMe without those issues.
Sabrent is generally described as a little better built, while the ORICO is smaller and still performs on par for many uses. The Sabrent model is only a few dollars more, so it is often the alternative to check first.
It can ship with old RTL9210 firmware, and updating it may fix disconnects and dramatically improve speed. One report went from about 30 MB/s read to about 450 MB/s after flashing newer firmware.
The lid acts as a thin heatsink rather than a full metal case, so heat dissipation is limited under heavy loads. The cover screw is also bulky and bothersome, and the board can come out of the enclosure very easily.

The good thing about this design is you can always just zip tie a regular large nvme heatsink in place of the lid, ok for static use.

I probably have too many but always nice to have a reliable one handy.. I use to help friends after they upgrade their internal SSD to something larger,n then toss old drive in this as a easy way to access old files as they clean off cloned new drive.
Of course now SSD pricey so those old SSD I. The drawer from past upgrade might be time to use them now as backup transfer drives

Community sourced firmware's also go beyond what these manufacturers release themselves
