This 12 gauge Amazon Basics speaker wire is a stranded, pure copper option that fits long runs and power hungry home theater setups. It has been used successfully for surround, surround back, Atmos, and even 4 ohm speakers, and the 99.9 percent oxygen free copper is treated as close to as pure as practical. The main caution is that the conductor may not feel like a full true 12 gauge, and the wire does not look especially flexible. For shorter runs or lower power speakers, cheaper 16 gauge is often enough, so this makes the most sense when gauge really matters.
buyers who want stranded pure copper speaker wire for typical installs because commenters confirm it's stranded copper and say it worked well for their rear speaker run.
home theater owners running surround/surround back/Atmos speaker channels because commenters say it worked fine for powering power-hungry, amplified 4-ohm Arendal speakers.
people planning a long speaker run (around 100 ft or more) for power-hungry setups because community guidance says 100-foot+ lengths and "insanely power-hungry speakers" are where 12-gauge is more likely to be needed versus cheaper 16-gauge.
installers who are pairing speaker wire with banana plugs because one commenter specifically recommends combining this with banana plugs and says pure copper is what you want.
home theater buyers adding in-ceiling Atmos speakers who are trying to match true 12-gauge copper because one commenter returned this after comparing it to actual 12-gauge copper and felt the internal copper amount looked like only about 1/3 to 1/2 as much.
buyers who are very skeptical of Amazon Basics product claims because one commenter says they have a difficult time trusting any "Amazon Basics" product.
buyers who require strict "true 12-gauge" verification because one commenter argues that if it isn't really 12-gauge, it would be falsely misrepresented and "completely unacceptable under any circumstances."
Yes. The wire is stranded copper, and it is described as pure copper rather than copper-clad aluminum. That makes it a better choice for speaker runs where low resistance matters.
For runs around 100 feet or more, 12-gauge is the safer pick, especially for power-hungry speakers. For shorter runs under about 50 feet with 8-ohm speakers and under roughly 120 watts, 16-gauge is often sufficient.
It has been used successfully for surround, surround back, and Atmos channels, including amplified 4-ohm speakers. It is also suitable for in-ceiling Atmos runs and other home theater speaker wiring.
The outer jacket can make it look like full 12-gauge, but one comparison found less copper inside than older true 12-gauge wire. A practical check is to measure the conductor diameter, which should be about 2.0 mm for 12-gauge stranded wire.
It may not be very flexible based on review videos, so it may be less convenient for tight bends or tricky routing. The tradeoff is that it is still a decent price for 12-gauge copper wire.
I used a few reels of this for my surround, surround back and atmos channels. Works fine for powering my power hungry, amplified, 4ohm Arendal speakers.
12 gauge stranded wire should have a conductor diameter of 2.0mm. If you could measure your wire and post the results, that would be helpful to others.
I bought a couple 200' reels of this wire and it is great, you can see for yourselves.
BTW Slickdeals, it's a PITA to post a pic for a reply using a phone.
I received it. The wire I got is 65 seperate 30 gauge conductors with an average of about 0.25 mm diameter per conductor, so total cross-sectional area is ~3.19 mm^2. From the charts[solaris-shop.com], that's close enough to 12 gauge for me since I'm not using it to build an electric space station.
I'm picking up the 200 feet of 14 gauge, too.

doesnt look that flexible from one of the review videos, though still decent price for 12guage.
Yep, don't buy this wire if flexible is top of the list.

The wire is stranded copper and can work well for rear speaker runs.
The 100-foot length can be a good fit for long speaker runs when gauge selection is appropriate.
The cable can work fine for surround, surround back, and Atmos channels with amplified 4-ohm speakers.
The 99.9% oxygen-free copper claim may be close enough to 100% purity for practical listening use.
The product listing can be viewed with distrust if the wire spec is not verified or feels insufficiently scientific.
The insulation and outer diameter can make the wire look like true 12-gauge while the internal copper amount appears reduced.
The wire may not look very flexible based on review videos, which can complicate installation.
The conductor diameter should be checked because 12-gauge stranded wire is expected around 2.0mm, and measurements may be needed to confirm the spec.
