Staples has had this printer for 500-600 with 50% back as points, so net cost of 250-300 as long as you use the rewards at staples, which isn't hard to do

This is an excellent printer, very happy with its performance and ink efficiency, prints borderless 11x17 beautifully.

I have been keeping an eye and only Amazon is the one with $499. Hoping BestBuy soon matches it. I have staples and Officedepot near me with in stock for pickup but $100 more. Plus only Office Depot and best buy does the $100 trade-in promo. So trying to see if I can stack multiple things on the purchase. It would be awesome if Staples did the trade in promo.

FYI, roughly $130 to refill the ink with Epson ink:

Is there a well known, tried and true cheaper option for these printers?

Can't you have BB price match Amazon to get the Amazon price now instead of waiting 3 weeks for Amazon shipping?

This looks to be highly rated and like the original Epson 552 kit, includes 70ml pigment black + 70ml dye-based black and grey and CMY (6 total) for far less:

If it were me, I'd try this for $40. None of the reviews complain that print quality suffers, which is good...

After more than 2 decades of laser printers, I think I'm ready to switch to inkjet again. Do the print heads dry up if not used for weeks on end?

That is sublimation ink. Different than regular ink.

It does, reason why we have two printers. Laser mono for daily tasks and inkjet for annual photo printing which usually requires new ink cartridge refill each time.

I just checked Best Buy and they don't sell this printer, it is sold by a third party company EZ TECH and probably does not qualify for trade in promo.
