This outlet extender adds five outlets, four USB ports, and a night light, making it handy for charging stations and spots where extra plugs are needed. The light sensor and night light are especially useful at night, and the center screw helps keep it secure when the wall outlet supports that setup. The USB ports are not USB Power Delivery, so they are less suited to laptop charging than higher wattage models. AFCI breakers can trip when the charging ports are used, and the unit works best where the outlet is easy to reach and the circuit is not overloaded.

Common Questions (5)

  • This model has standard USB charging, while a PD version can better support higher-demand devices like laptops and faster charging. If you want USB Power Delivery, a nearby alternative with 1800J and a PD20 port was suggested as the better buy for a couple dollars more.

  • It can trip an AFCI breaker when the USB charging ports are used, but it works fine in non-AFCI outlets. The listing also says the plastic prong on USB receptacle and GFCI versions needs to be cut off before use, which may matter for fit on certain outlets.

  • Yes, the center screw should be firmly screwed into the receptacle for a secure fit. That support is not available on outlets without a center screw, such as Decora-style outlets.

  • The price is listed as $11.99 unless you are a Prime member, and the deal is marked Prime-only. That means non-Prime shoppers may see the higher price.

  • Yes, it has a night light with a light sensor, and that feature is a big part of why some people like it. It can create a useful nighttime glow when placed in common areas like kitchens or bedrooms.

What is PD?
Regular USB is 5V. USB PD does a handshake between the charger and device (AND the cable itself if it's above 60W) to agree to use higher voltages. Higher voltage means more power without needing more current (and therefore a thicker, more expensive cable). Same as how the power lines to your house are higher voltage before the transformer so that the wires don't need to be the size of tree trunks
