The eufy S220 SoloCam 2K is a solar outdoor camera that shines when it gets steady sun and stays off subscription plans. It can run for months without a recharge in sunny setups, and the app, range, and encrypted onboard storage are all called out as convenient. Cold, snow, and long rainy stretches can drain it or knock it offline, and winter often means manual charging or adjusting the mount for better sun. A dependable fit for mild climates or well placed installs.

  • Solar self-charging can keep the camera at full charge for long stretches with consistent sun exposure.

  • The camera can avoid taking the unit down for charging when placed in partial sunlight conditions.

  • The camera can store encrypted recordings on board without requiring a subscription service.

  • The camera can operate across a wide temperature range from -4°F to 122°F.

  • Winter solar performance can require manual charging every couple of weeks or tilting the panel toward the south.

  • Cold and snow conditions can cause the cameras to go offline even when power is supplied via USB cords.

  • Consecutive rainy days can drain the battery and prevent self-recharging, requiring indoor recharging.

  • Some units can fail within months, including charging failures or Wi‑Fi connectivity issues unless the camera is near the router.

Love this camera but during winter I have to manually charge it every 2-3 weeks.
I haven't had to charge this camera at all for the last two months and counting... It's mounted above my garage, and the sun is hitting it everyday and the self-charge solar panel works great...

I have 2 of these cameras I've used for over 2 years now in Toledo, OH where we get a ton of snow and gray cloudy winters. The cameras have never needed to be recharged for me weirdly. When I look at the analytics, they're mainly losing 1-2% of battery life a day with multiple detections and alerts sent to me, and the solar stats show no charge for weeks, except for a percent or two increase here and there.

Had one go out unexpectedly and eufy sent me a replacement way out of warranty. Quick shipping too. I have 4 and do enjoy them quite a bit, I've only had to charge them once. Out of Florida

My s230 has gone to crap after 3 years or so. The lens is all foggy and barely maintains a good connection. I'll miss the nice bright light, but I'll get this as a replacement.

Dumb question... does the solar panel get warm at all to melt snow off of it? Is the radiant heat of the sun enough to do that??
Depending on how steep of an angle you set it to the sun might help out but there is no heating element to melt the snow and I don't think it gets warm enough to work in the weather we are having right now, let alone melt any snow that will get on top of it, but I don't have one, I'm just going by what other are saying about it. So take all this with a grain of salt but just one grain though.

They make some nice solar cameras. But this one appears to not be as robust as many of the others. NONE of mine are having issues with the cold and snow.

I've had 2 of these since the last time it was posted. You do need to charge them prior to putting them out, the sun they'll get will keep them topped up. One of them I only charged to about 70% so it took some time before it was up to full charge. I live in the SE USA, so although we don't get brutal winters like our northern brethren, we also have plenty of below freezing weather and overcast days. These cameras have held up so far, and have yet to drop below 90% in charge. I've not had to take them down once to charge them. I do wish they swiveled better, and ended up buying aftermarket mounting brackets that allow for better viewing angles. The app is fine and easy to use, really no complaints there. Surprisingly good range too...I have one that is at the very end of my backyard, and it still manages to connect to my home wifi.
Agreed
