much better and cheaper models from "lesser" brands. You're paying for the Sony name and they haven't made their own panels in a decade plus and are getting out of producing TVs.

Not completely true. It's a joint venture with TCL who will mfg hardware for Sony who will use their own proprietary processors in the Bravia TV sets.
