The Staff here at Slickdeals view comments then go posting deals they think may influence others, just to get that commission money.
.
Just after you posted this, Staff just made a post about a "slick deal" for a vornado. The grift is completely transparent.

The brand Dr. Infrared Heater (commonly referred to as Dr. Heater) was established in 2007.
The company is headquartered in the United States, with its main operations based in Burlingame, California, and a secondary presence in Chicago, Illinois. It is owned by its parent company, TLM International, Inc.
Key Brand Information:
Establishment: 2007.
Niche: They specialize in energy-efficient infrared quartz heaters and industrial-grade portable heaters.
Market Position: The brand gained significant traction on Amazon and at retailers like Lowe's by positioning itself as a "factory-direct" alternative to legacy brands. They claim their products are manufactured in the same facilities that supply major retailers like Sears and Home Depot but sold at a lower price point.
Product Evolution: Their most recognizable product is the DR-968 portable infrared space heater, which features a dual heating system (combining infrared and convection) that the brand claims to have been the first to introduce to the market.
While the name sounds similar to Mr. Heater, they are entirely different entities. Mr. Heater is a much older brand owned by the Enerco Group, which has roots dating back to 1872.

The problem with all these comments about having a 20 year old doctor infrared heater, is that we all know that these brand names get sold around and the quality drops insanely by this point.

Dr. Infrared Heater uses radiant infrared technology that directly warms objects, people, and surfaces in the room—like sunlight—without primarily heating the air, which makes it efficient, draft-free, and ideal for quick personal comfort as the warmed items re-radiate heat evenly. In contrast, Vornado heaters employ convective heating with vortex fans to warm the air itself via heating elements, then circulate it powerfully throughout the space for consistent whole-room temperatures, though it can feel less immediate and more reliant on air movement. This core difference means Dr. Infrared feels more targeted and sun-like, while Vornado excels at even distribution in larger areas
What if you aim a Vornado at this heater?

I will say, long term you really need to look into a mini split if you own the property. These are energy hogs, they are good, I used them for years at my old house that the central heating stopped working and I didn't have the money to fit it. My power bills always spiked when I used these pretty significantly, if you selectively use them, they are great but I had a house burn down in my town because one of these turned over(even with the safety cutoff). My house now stays at 66 during winter and I just got a $650 mini split that keeps my bedroom and another area at a perfect 70-71 24/7 and my bill went up maybe $20 a month, where these would cost $175 a month if they're going 24/7.

I love how people claim resistive heating is "ultra efficient" to sell them to you. Every resistive heater is 100% efficient, always. Quartz, ceramic, oil-filled, heck - even your toaster. (don't use your toaster) 1kWh in = 1kWh of heat out.

Heat pumps are more than 100% efficient - typically 250-400% or more. 1kWh electricity in = 2.5-4+kWh heat out. They cost more, but electricity savings quickly offsets that for anything beyond light use in a small space.

As for this deal, I see no reason to pay 4x what a cheap ceramic heater costs unless you're in a large/windy space that can't otherwise be heated.

All electric heaters are 100% efficiency (or very near it if they have a built-in fan) and nearly all types of electric heaters generate infrared heat by design. Not saying this is a bad heater, but you're paying for the esthetics and any added functionality like accurate thermostat etc, not efficiency.

Not if your outlets are wired correctly and don't have dangerous corrosion on the terminals. Pretty much every domestic outlet made in the last 75 years is designed to carry 15A, and this is only 12. If your outlet heats up (in a meaningful way) from just this appliance, you need to have it looked at by an electrician.

I have one for about 3 years now. No issues at all except the illumination is bright and would keep you up in a bedroom at night. I heat up about 800 sq feet with no issues.

Love these, have 4 (6 really) and only use them for heat and have not turn on central heat since getting our first two in 2015..all are still working great! BTW dr.Heater also makes iliving, i got 2 on sale during summer a few years ago and they are the exact heaters renamed, even tells you to contact dr. Heater for support.. PS: avoid the dr. Heater 'hybrid', not good at all.

You're easily paying as much to run 4 of these as a heat pump would cost to make the whole house toasty. Or a gas furnace. Just sayin.

I've had one of these for 6 years now and it's still going strong! I probably use it more than most too since it's my main heating source where I live so it gets a ton of usage during this time of the year.
The auto-mode is really great too since it only runs when it's about the temp you set it at. Although I usually have to set it a few degrees under what I want since it's either not 100% accurate or due to it being on the ground it's can't sense the actual room temperature.

I bought one of these 12 years ago and use it every winter in my living room. It runs 12-14 hours a day and still works just fine. Back then, I paid $129.99 from Amazon. This is a great deal.

I have also had this model for over 10 years. Still runs like a champ.
