These are a great buy at this price. A lot of folks in the "hobby" have this in their arsenal. Can't recall the last time I've seen them new at this price point.

The HD 6XX comes across as a classic open back headphone with a sound that lands close to the HD 650 and is especially strong for vocals. It is praised as a rare new deal at this price, with long term durability, easy pad and cord replacement, and a reputation for lasting for years. The main catch is power, since the high impedance makes an amp or capable dongle important, and the clamp can feel tight at first. A solid pick if you want the 650 style sound and can drive it properly.

Picked up the last deal for the 599.

Wondering if I should switch to these, not a huge price increase.

Check out the HD599 review I posted above. It compares the HD599 and the HD650 directly. It finds that the sound is very different between the two. If the return policies are lenient, I'd get both and try them. Or, in the true SD fashion, go for both! Big Grin

Is there any way to connect a mic to headphones that have this kind of dual wire connection?

Was thinking about picking these up to pair with a new tube amp I got since these have a higher impedance (300ohm) than some other pairs I have. Thanks.

Does anyone have firsthand experience with the HD6xx compared to the K702? It seems like the K702 has more detail and air. Just curious. Thanks

Modmik is the most common way.

Grabbed a pair last year. Have them plugged in to the Receiver's Headphones jack. Seems to work well wondering if any of you using them with an amp. Would that make a significant improvement in sound quality? If so, which amp would you recommend?

Better to get a separate microphone

The clamping force is pretty tight on these compared to all my other headphones. Do these eventually loosen up?

I'm sure you've checked sites like this, and it's not firsthand experience, but just in case:

They did not ever loosen for me. I had a pair of HD 600 that I would keep on a small basketball when I wasn't using them to try and stretch them out. It would feel good for a little bit on my head but slowly become too much clamping force.

HD 598 for life as the most comfortable headphones. If mine ever die I don't know what I'll do.

Bought these last year and returned them. I don't notice much difference between them and my Philips. I don't use an amp. Also anyone get 50$ offer through capital one shipping?

Well there is one. These have higher impedance so they need an amp
