$30 (listed discounted price) for a low-mid tier lumen flashlight using a proprietary battery that costs $25. by itself, vs the stuff Sofirn and Wurkkos are offering? I could buy 8 decent, brand name Samsung 3000 mAh 18650's for the price of that single 2000 mAh cell.

I'll pass.

On its own, it's not compelling. It only makes sense if you want to get into that battery ecosystem or already have other tools that use these batteries.

Valid points. But if you are already in their ecosystem, or want to be, this is a power damn cheap way to get a few batteries. I've personally avoided this specific line, partly because of the issues you mentioned (although I have plenty of their other tools/battery systems), but have been wanting their wireless glue gun and curious about their smaller rotary/carving dremel tool options so might jump in with this deal mostly for the extra batteries.

I've got some Fenix headlamps and wurkkos/Sofirn compact flashlights.

This line isn't meant for flashlights enthusiasts - it's pretty good for people who are also buying the Ryobi usb fan, scrubber, rotary tool, etc.

Came to check this out and while on the HD page, this 1200 lumen 18650 battery 2 pack pops up. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky...re-details
You get two for the price of this Ryobi and Husky's no haggle lifetime warranty with HD. You just bring the product to any HD and they will replace it free.
