Gen 2. These are new. Louder and better range.

Anyone know of any reviews that attempt to compare gen1 to gen2, reading the marketing materials it seems like a case could be made for gen1 at the right price and use case.
Funny, I had the opposite take. I've been waiting for these to come out and now I'm hoping for a comparison that can convince me to ditch my functional gen 1s for Gen 2. I think I have a problem…

I don't think that is the wrong approach necessarily, especially if you have them attached to something of more value or you are dealing with a larger area something might be located within (like a larger house). The marketing information stated about a 50% increase in speaker volume and range. The thing it didn't put a number on is how the updated bluetooth will affect all that (if at all). So I'm really curious in what scenarios you see the biggest gains, and if there are any where the gains are less than advertised. I was lucky, and got in on that deal at the apple store (4 for $26), and have about 16 tags between my home and others (for my family).

AirTags don't appear to be in the list of items affected by the 90-day return policy or any. other restricted return category at Costco. The closest 90-day return category "Smart Wearable Devices", but I don't think that is a match.

I've seen a teardown video on YouTube and read some descriptions. It has the same form factor so all old accessories should fit.

The updated bluetooth range should make it findable sooner and more accurately since more Apple devices would be able to detect it in public.

If you have a compatible iPhone or Watch, the improved precision finding can be useful. I like to use it when waiting for luggage at the airport and this could make that easier.

I plan to replace the ones attached to my most important items with Gen2, and use the Gen1 with less important items that I might also carry in a backpack/luggage as a backup.

I guess they throw in 1 old one for $1. Meh.
I think 5x gen 2 for $99 > than 4x for $99.

Will Amazon price match
I think Best Buy usually price matches Costco.I was holding out for these, and yesterday they only had the generic 1 in stock. Great buy, ordered right away. Going to switch some AirTags around that could benefit the improved features.

I was looking for the same but have not found it. Seems to have some performance gains and a louder speaker, but honestly I have yet to have a Gen 1 fail at helping me find my items. I want these because they're new, not because I need them. I also have a problem...

FYI
  1. Compared with the previous-generation AirTag. Improved Precision Finding works with AirTag (2nd generation) paired with iPhone Air or iPhone 15 or later (excluding iPhone 16e); availability varies by region.
