This battery powered bug zapper racket is praised as a satisfying, sturdy way to knock down mosquitoes, flies, fruit flies, and even yellow jackets. The fixed head is easier to aim than swivable designs, and the blue light helps draw insects in for all night use. Battery life appears strong, with long stretches between changes and some units lasting years. The main tradeoff is that rechargeable models can be tedious to maintain or fail when the built in battery wears out, while this style has no reliable battery indicator.

Common Questions (5)

  • The battery model avoids the common failure mode of built-in rechargeable packs dying and making the whole unit useless. Standard batteries can also be swapped out, and Eneloops are a practical option for long-term use.

  • Several owners report years of use without changing batteries, especially on older Harbor Freight-style units. Battery life can be long enough that replacement is rarely needed, though some people still prefer rechargeable cells to avoid buying disposables.

  • It is effective on mosquitoes and flies when you can actually hit them, and one user called it a satisfying way to dispatch mosquitoes. Larger insects like wasps may only be stunned and can fly away after a few minutes.

  • It can be used on yellow jackets, including holding it on a nest for a direct kill, and it also works for flies and fruit flies. For persistent fruit flies, a small indoor plug-in zapper near the sink or compost area can be even more effective.

  • A fixed head is easier to aim because a swivable head can loll around while swinging at bugs. That makes the fixed-head racket better for quick strikes.

Will this sitting enough to work on house flies too or just piss them off lol
At least for the harbor freight one, it usually won't kill them with a single swat, but it'll at least stun them long enough for you to dispatch of them via other methods.

apparently the "grid voltage" is how much power the insect is zapped with. The highest ones on Amazon are about 4000 watts. this B&D one has 2500-3000 volts. The popular zapits (which I have had and liked) have about 4000 watts but not as high ratings as this B&D due to durabilty/ charging issues? For the price, this B&D one is a great deal. For me, I am on my third bug zapper and really rely on it to kill mosquitoes about this time of year. Otherwise, I have the smell/genetics of a mosquito magnet. So I opted for a more expensive $21 with high ratings and a 4000 watt grid voltage. (YISSVIC). I am NOT messing around! SmilieMy last zapper had a swivable head for set up on a table and in different configurations. However, when you swing it at a bug, the head lolls everywhere making it near impossible to hit anything. So I definitely prefer the fixed head rackets.
How are the 4000 watt ones on things like wasps? I have this black and decker one and it's more like a stun effect on a large wasp. They can and do fly away a few minutes later...

I agree, my rechargeable one has lasted for 3-4 years now. I had to replace batteries before and it was def tedious. I unfortunately had a lot of fruit flies to zap over the years.
I had fruit flies for a while. My neighbor is a mover and people give him things they don't want pretty frequently. One of those things was a small, indoor bug zapper that he gave me. I set it up by the sink and haven't had to touch my zapping racket since. I bought one for a farmer friend who has a small bin in his kitchen for compostable materials and it eliminated his problem, too. If you still have fruit flies, I can't recommend a small plug-in zapper enough; mine is about the size of a fist.
