Does anyone have experience with both this and the Atari VCS? I see one of the screenshots on this one shows it connected to the TV. Wondering what the performance is compared to the two and pros and cons.

I cannot answer everything that you asked. However I can make some comments on the VCS. I have 2 of them. One is fully modded. The other one is sitting new in a box with the mods in my drawer.
  1. It is easy to physically mod
  2. It is a pain to get the BIOS, OS, etc setup. There is some tribal knowledge required.
  3. It is a low-end desktop even when fully modded. It could play platformers and low tier 2D games like Brawlhalla. You could use it as a HTPC
  4. Memory and SATA prices will make it more cost ineffective
  5. I want to get rid of both VCS. You could buy the Legion Go that is on sale for $400 here and get better specs for nearly the same price as the VCS when you consider Memory and SSD
