How does this compare to Power A play and charge kit? You get 2 third party batteries for $13 compared to 1 oem here.

I bought two of the Microsoft branded batteries and they both refuse to charge after two years. The no name brand I have is on 5 years and still going strong. From my personal experience, I'd pass on these.

Does this work with the series X controller that came with the console?

At first sight the controller seemed incompatible

These work with all of the AA controllers (MS and 3rd party) and can be used while plugged in. However note that the battery indicator WILL NOT WARN YOU that the battery is low, it'll just stop working and you'll need to plug it in. If this is your thing it'll work for you, but the battery life will likely drop with each cycle as these tend to be lower quality cells. Instead consider using rechargeable AAs (EBL 8 port charger with 4 AAs and 4 AAAs is ~$18 shipped currently and might be a better option)

I'm looking to buy these. What makes you think that they have lower quality cells?

Over the years I've used 4 different brands including Best buy (last one I bought was an insignia a couple years ago during the $9 deal to give this product idea one final chance),Microsoft, and a couple randos since the modern xboxes were released (to replace a ps3), and they have all been disappointing (sorting the Amazon reviews by date suggests quite a few problems recently as well.) If they don't use cheap cells then I have no flipping clue why the lifespan drops so precariously after about 2-3 months of daily use for a couple/three hours a day. The AAs will also lose lifespan but they're easier to flip out without having to go back to the Xbox and plug in and so far haven't fully disappointed me in such a short time be they ebl Amazon or enloop. (Plus the battery monitor function will at least tell me that they're getting weaker, and I can replace them ahead of time with another set of rechargeable double A's, my recollection of the battery packs is they're always displayed as full until they're not.) Really if you're either a light user or are cool with playing a chunk of your time plugged into the Xbox then it'll work for you for me where I play is not close enough to the Xbox and I would instead need a much longer cord that could both charge and play (I don't personally know if the USB 2 Data speeds are enough in which case replacing the cord with a really long one wouldn't be so expensive these days) I just gave up after trying a few different types and went to rechargeable batteries never to look back, this deal just popped on my feed because I'm always looking for very cheap controllers since I am very hard on mine and the kid steals them šŸ˜‚

Don't get these overpriced batteries. Get Eneloops and you'll be good for longer than the console generation. I still have mine from the Xbox 360 era and it still works great in my latest controllers.
