This MacBook Pro deal stands out for the 24GB memory configuration at $1499, which is the main draw over the usual 16GB setup. The Space Black finish is the only discounted color, and it gets attention for its matte look and fingerprint resistance, though silver is still favored for hiding wear, staying cooler in sun, and possibly holding resale value better. The 512GB storage is the main limitation, with higher storage options discussed separately at higher prices. A solid value if 24GB matters more than extra SSD space.

Common Questions (4)

  • Space Black is described as an anodized finish that reduces fingerprints and smudges, but it can still scratch if abused. Silver is preferred by some because it hides flaws better and can be cooler in the sun.

  • If you need more storage, the 1TB version may be the better buy: a 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD configuration is listed at $1599, and another 1TB upgrade deal was pointed out at $1699 for 24GB RAM. That makes the current $1499 512GB model best for buyers who do not need the extra storage.

  • This configuration includes 24GB of RAM, not 16GB. The 24GB model is priced at $1499 here, while Apple Education pricing for the same 24GB setup is $1699 and MSRP is $1799.

  • Yes, the discount applies only to Space Black. Silver is being held out for at a higher price, and some shoppers prefer silver for its classic look, better flaw-hiding, and slightly higher resale value.

Is it because of preference? Not sure why silver is more desirable. It just color.
I had the same question. I decided to try a new Macbook Pro, from Windows, and one reason it was recommended to get the silver is that the machine runs cooler if working outside in the sun. This was from a developer at Apple. I told him it makes sense for Apple to do that, because they hire "Bright" people. shake head

How's this a deal? Isn't this the same price as Apple Edu? Or only a $100 off MSRP?

It's not.
This configuration (with 24GB RAM) is $1699 from Apple Edu, and $1799 MSRP.

Not everyone can get Apple Edu. That's like saying "It's not a deal because employee discount is higher."

Yeah, I'm the same. I'm sure the redesigned M6 will sell like crazy with all the pent up demand.

Technically, nothing is stopping you from getting apple EDU discount. IIRC it's based off an honor system with one purchase per year, no questions asked.

I'm looking for a M5 with 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, and this B&H deal seems like a better option than the Microcenter one for that setup.
