Can anyone recommend a reliable kvm with just mouse/keyboard & hdmi? I went through several already and they all start to fail within a year. Usually usb still works, but screen stays blank.

Have you tried a software implementation? I use Synergy. It works well for me.

The proper ones that have hdmi or DP get pricey quickly. I resorted to combining a basic USB switch for KB + Mouse and a separate hdmi switch.
When the hdmi switch is separate I was able to but a higher refresh rate HDMI swtich rated at 8k 60Hz, or 4k @120hz for $20-ish.
in my experience, you could get almost the same model tv from one retailer vs another, and the noticeable difference would be how many HDMI ports are offered. The version with 2-3 ports could be like $100 less expensive than the one with 4-5 ports. All that depends on your setup. I say if you can work with less ports until your set up demands it, do it, and then upgrade when you do need more (or just get this type of product since you likely won't need them all at once!).

Same here. And separating the hdmi and USB switch also makes the whole connection more stable.
