This 12.1 inch Onn Pro tablet stands out as a cheap Helio G99 Android 14 slate with a bright, sharp screen and a sturdier, more premium feel than Fire tablets. It handles streaming, browsing, reading, and light gaming well, with 6GB of physical RAM, microSD expansion, Wi Fi 6, and removable bloatware. The main drawbacks are no headphone jack, USB C 2.0 with no video out, and open box condition that can range from spotless to beat up. Some units also show flicker, brightness quirks, Wi Fi instability, or slow updates, so it is best suited to light everyday use.
Common Questions (8)
Some units show flicker or stepwise brightness changes, especially in low light or at low brightness, and it can happen even with auto-brightness off. A developer-option workaround that disables HW overlays may reduce it, and some units stop flickering after updates.
The tablet has been reported updating through Android 14 with security updates into late 2025, but there is no confirmation it will reach Android 15. Update installs can be slow and may take hours on some units.
Most units work normally, but some have trouble with certain networks, hidden SSIDs, or mesh roaming and may need Wi‑Fi toggled off and on or a router reset. Other users report fast, stable Wi‑Fi on different networks, so the issue appears network-dependent on some devices.
It uses a Helio G99 with 6GB physical RAM and is described as roughly A9+ speed, with performance close to other midrange tablets. It handles browsing, media, and streaming well, but it is not meant for heavy tasks or as a main computer.
A rigid case is recommended because the tablet can flex, and several users had trouble finding a hard shell that covers both front and back. A magnetic-latch case that wakes/sleeps the screen and matte screen protectors were specifically recommended.
No 3.5 mm headphone jack is included. A USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter can be used instead if wired headphones are needed.
The onboard storage cannot be upgraded internally. Storage expansion is via microSD only, and users have reported using cards from 128GB up to 512GB and possibly larger.
Video playback is mixed: AVI and MP4 generally play fine, while MKV can fail in some apps unless the player has the right codec or the files are stored locally. Some users also reported playback stopping after 5-15 minutes in multiple players.

The background light will automatically become stronger if screen turns to more white. I have disabled autobrightness, power saving and other normal related features, but still no solution for this issue. This is the only pain for me to use it.
Bluetooth disconnected once when connected to my fixed location speaker. Since I don't always use Bluetooth, I am not sure the frequency of the issue.
Currently I click reddit app and choose split screen.
Now on the tablet, left is one app and right is reddit, very convenient for me. And this method can work with any portrait mode only app.
Well, got all my personal info, Several days' money was taken off my CC, now silently CANCELED?!
I'm very suspicious of this seller and will never buy again from them, and now have to check my CC account to make sure my money is back or not.
Will report this seller and the very frustrating experience.
THANKS FOR NOTHING WALMART.
Definitely not a reason to return cause otherwise the tablet is a wonderful.

Don't buy the cheesy pleather cases. This case is excellent for $15. The tablet snaps into the case, and the case closes magnetically and doubles as a stand. The magnet also interacts with the tablet's magnet sensor to turn on/off the display: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DSP2DCRS
Not sure exactly what you want for screen protector. I prefer a matte/anti-glare display, and a matte protector also smudges less, so this might work for you. 3 for $9: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DNG2QNFN

Updated to latest FW and it runs pretty smooth. Not bad for a 12inch tablet for $100.
I was trying to install the costco app from the play store. The app store wouldn't even show the costco app and says the app cannot be installed on this device. I had to extract the app from my phone and transfer it to this tablet to install it.
So I am wondering if the Android 14 on this tablet was the reason it wouldn't allow the app on this device. If that's the case, it better gets more updates.
