If you shuck it and put it into an NVMe port it's slower than using the box. And you can't use the box for other NVMe ssds.

This WD Black D30 2TB is best understood as a fast external Xbox storage drive that can also be shucked for NVMe use. It delivers strong USB performance, with reports around 867 to 921 MB per second over USB C and even higher speeds in faster enclosures or direct PCIe use. It works well for non Series Xbox games, cold storage, and secondary capacity, but the internal drive appears to be a WD SN350QE style part with QLC or low end behavior, including a steep drop after cache fills. That makes it less appealing for PC shucking or heavy write workloads, especially since some orders also hit checkout and pricing issues.
Common Questions (4)
It can reach around 867MB/s read and 921MB/s write over USB-C in Blackmagic, and some TB4 setups report about 2000MB/s read/write when the drive is empty. Direct PCIe/NVMe connection has also shown about 1800MB/s write, but sustained writes can fall sharply once cache is exhausted.
The 2TB unit has been identified as a WDC SN350QE 2TB, and teardown reports point to a 2242 SanDisk drive with SN350/SN550 controller overlap. That makes it more of an OEM TLC/QLC-style internal SSD than a standard retail SN550.
It can work in a PC NVMe slot, but it is not a standout shuck candidate: reported sustained writes drop to about 150MB/s after the SLC cache fills, and some users say it is slower than a standard WD SN550. If you want a better PC drive, a separate NVMe purchase may be the safer choice.
Yes. It is described as suitable for non-Series Xbox games and cold storage, and it is much faster than a SATA SSD for that role. It is best treated as secondary storage rather than an OS drive.

WD Blue SN550E is a really good deal today. It would be a low end drive.
WD Green SN350QE is NOT a deal at any amount of money. It's a 100TBW drive which is lower than basement; I wouldn't recommend anyone use this drive, certainly not for shucking. If your Xbox need some storage, buy this as SSD prices are insane. If you are shucking this for a PC, don't do it, pay double for a decent drive instead.

You can read for info here, people were buying these around Sept 2025 and confirmed SN350QE: https://forums.redflagd
Based on research, these are not Green QLC. They're OEM TLC NAND, flashed with SN350QE generic OEM firmware, since it uses same controller as retail SN350. TBW suggests it's 1200TBW for 2TB (that would be nice). **My own experience. I moved 1.25TB over to the drive and HWInfo said health was still 100%. If it was 100TBW, i would have expected 99-98%
health.

health.
I'm guessing the percentage used counter is tied to something other than the actual data units written but instead the internal health of the NAND. If the drive was initially empty and 1.25TB were written to it then your WAF would be very low and it'd likely only result in a single PE cycle.
