If you shuck it and put it into an NVMe port it's slower than using the box. And you can't use the box for other NVMe ssds.

This WD Black D30 2TB is best understood as a fast external Xbox storage drive that can also be shucked for NVMe use. It delivers strong USB performance, with reports around 867 to 921 MB per second over USB C and even higher speeds in faster enclosures or direct PCIe use. It works well for non Series Xbox games, cold storage, and secondary capacity, but the internal drive appears to be a WD SN350QE style part with QLC or low end behavior, including a steep drop after cache fills. That makes it less appealing for PC shucking or heavy write workloads, especially since some orders also hit checkout and pricing issues.
The drive can deliver very high transfer rates in a TB4 enclosure, reaching around 2000MB/s read and write during testing.
The drive can reach about 1800MB/s write when connected directly to a PCIe slot as an NVMe connection.
The deal price can be successfully reduced with a $10 off promotion after purchase.
The drive can work well as external or secondary storage when it is not used as an OS drive.
The internal SSD model can differ from expectations, including reports of SN350QE QLC or SN350QE identification instead of SN550E.
Shucking and moving the drive into an NVMe port can be slower than using the original enclosure.
Real-world write performance can drop sharply after SLC cache fills, with measured speeds falling to roughly 150MB/s.
Checkout can fail on Firefox with a "Security Code Invalid" credit card error, while switching to Chrome may be required.

Update: after extensive write test, the drive does fall to 150MB/s after SLC cache is full, so very likely a QLC. I took it apart and it's a 2242 drive with SanDisk 20-82-10129-A2 controller; SanDisk 019603 2T00 NAND. 2T00 just notes it's the 2T unit. Can't find any other information online. Gonna have to return now.

Considering prices, I'll keep it some I needed spare capacity but will not do anything intensive
