And for the 90% of people that don't know what an APK is, Roku is a great option that throws fewer ads in your face

I don't think there is anyone who can't do it; there is one key video on yt to watch and *anyone* can fix their non-roku device in under 30 minutes.....and never look back.

Thank you! I purchased one of these on Black Friday and we love it so much. I went out and purchased a TCL Roku TV for the spare bedroom. That one purchasing another streaming stick plus for the Fire TV we have in the kitchen lol. I hate Fire TV ha ha

this is why ROKU is so popular

The Onn 4K Plus is still a better option and faster.

This is one of Roku's newest player, the only flaw IMHO, is that it lacks a MPEG-2 hardware decoder, only important if you use it to play free Over-The-Air broadcast TV, like with Tablo. It struggle to play MPEG-2 content, no smooth and at lower detail/resolution.

If you need to play MPEG-2 content smoothly, get the Streaming Stick 4K for $5 more which also is capable of Dolby Vision, has a better WiFi reception but it lacks the Bluetooth to connect headphones, but you can do this later with the Roku App.

Both of these player can decode AV1 in hardware, including HDR content.

I'm not a fan of Roku, but this seems like a slick deal.

Me either but the UI has improved. I ordered two as we have two that are aging out. My 2017 AppleTV is still my go to and much faster than even a 2025 model Roku Stick. It's hardwired ethernet so that could be part of it.

I recently got both this Roku stick and an ONN 4k plus. I know what an APK is, I've made my own for a couple of our devices. But I've got no plans to do anything non-stock on either of these. For other streaming gadgets, I've recently used a couple of 2nd gen chromecasts and a couple of different versions of Fire sticks, currently the 4k max. Recently dropped a comcast streaming box (version prior to the current Xumo), and long ago used an early roku device.
With current deals, the Roku cost a little less than ONN. But at about $22 vs $30, not a deciding factor for me.
Both set up fairly easily and perform well. I think either would be great for any casual user - whichever is cheaper or a preferred brand, there isn't a bad option.
Both work fine with a generic USB network/power adapter I've got.
I had a grudge with Roku over bricking that early device, but have not heard that they've made any kind of habit of that. Their remote does have an initial glitch with the volume up/down not working with my TV, but I have not followed up to see if that can be manually configured better.
The old chromecasts were stalling and buffering on more and more services, even on wired network connections. The Roku and ONN both work smoothly on the same. The Roku even on a so-so wifi connection with about 50Mbps.
