Roku Streaming Stick Plus 2025 is a simple 4K HDR streamer that stands out for easy setup, smooth everyday performance, and a cleaner interface with fewer ads than some rivals. It works well for casual streaming, even on modest Wi Fi, and the current price makes it feel like a solid value. The main drawback is that it lacks MPEG 2 hardware decoding, so over the air TV playback can stutter unless you step up to the Streaming Stick 4K. The voice remote also seems prone to wearing out over time, making this a practical pick if you mainly want straightforward streaming.
Common Questions (5)
Both devices set up easily and perform well, but the ONN 4K Plus is described as faster and better value. The Roku can cost a little less, so the choice often comes down to brand preference or whichever is cheaper.
It is a solid option for casual users because it sets up easily, performs well, and throws fewer ads in your face than some other platforms. It also works smoothly on modest Wi‑Fi, even around 50 Mbps.
The voice remote can fail after about 1.5 years of daily use, and one setup had an initial volume up/down glitch with the TV. The stick itself can still be fine, but the remote may need replacement or manual reconfiguration.
It lacks an MPEG-2 hardware decoder, so MPEG-2 OTA/Tablo playback can stutter and look lower resolution. If you need smooth MPEG-2 playback, the Streaming Stick 4K is the better Roku option and also adds Dolby Vision.
Yes. It has been reported to work smoothly even on a so-so Wi‑Fi connection around 50 Mbps, and it also handled the same network where older Chromecast and Comcast boxes were stalling and buffering.

If you need to play MPEG-2 content smoothly, get the Streaming Stick 4K for $5 more which also is capable of Dolby Vision, has a better WiFi reception but it lacks the Bluetooth to connect headphones, but you can do this later with the Roku App.
Both of these player can decode AV1 in hardware, including HDR content.

I reported this as expired earlier as it's showing OOS for me.
With current deals, the Roku cost a little less than ONN. But at about $22 vs $30, not a deciding factor for me.
Both set up fairly easily and perform well. I think either would be great for any casual user - whichever is cheaper or a preferred brand, there isn't a bad option.
Both work fine with a generic USB network/power adapter I've got.
I had a grudge with Roku over bricking that early device, but have not heard that they've made any kind of habit of that. Their remote does have an initial glitch with the volume up/down not working with my TV, but I have not followed up to see if that can be manually configured better.
The old chromecasts were stalling and buffering on more and more services, even on wired network connections. The Roku and ONN both work smoothly on the same. The Roku even on a so-so wifi connection with about 50Mbps.
