Just a heads up, few reviews claim it didn't work for induction, even though cast iron does (and the company website claims it works). Most likely, the grill bottom is too far from some induction stovetops to work.
However, the bottom does not have to make direct contact for a pan to work with an induction stovetop, but there is a maximum distance and then the stove will think there is no pan present and will auto-shutoff. It varies depending on the specific design of the induction coils in the stove and the material of the cookware. I have a cast iron fry pan with a similar raised lip and the pan bottom sits ~2mm from the surface of my Café range and it works fine.
