Maybe it's been as low as $330 for those garage sale "refurbished/used/heavily beat up" ebay listings, but if one reads the description, these are brand new (w/ damaged box) --- complete with full manufacturer's warranty and Applecare eligible.

Also, to the above poster, I didn't see any links to those places where it's "as low as" $330. That's ok, happens to all of us. The other week I sent an email saying "Please see attachment" and whoopsie, totally forgot the attachment!

Now, if you compared the relative value of an entry-level M1 Air to an entry-level M4 Air (which has gone on sale for ~$750-800 over the holiday season, msrp $1000)...I'd argue for the extra ~$400 (double the price), you're getting a machine with a far superior processor, marginally larger screen, and double the ram. Also, it's not going on 6 years old. (But I'm using a 16gb/1tb M1 Air right now, and it's held up splendidly under daily normal use.)

If you have a strict budget or want to get into the apple ecosystem on the cheap, it'd be hard to beat this for a low-risk entry point. It's a delightful, well-made ultrabook that's extremely inexpensive.

Looks like these are $346 on Walmart.com. Same seller.

Mine arrived and it's not looking 'Excellent'. It's showing a purchase date of January 10, 2025 so coverage is expired and under battery health it says 'Service Recommended'. It seems like it was turned on at some point - there's a sticker on the box that says it was inspected - and then the battery drained and sat discharged for 13 months or so.

It's actually pretty much fine - it was obviously handled and unwrapped and the charging cable was bunched up and crammed back in the box. The bottom case was also marked up from the charging cable rubbing against it but I think the marks are removable.

Are you keeping it or returning?

I'm not a Mac person so I'm just asking why this is a good deal when you can buy the Mac Mini for $400 at Microcenter (check out the slickdeal). My use case is to use this as a desktop, attached to a 27" monitor. The 13" screen is too small for me to use as a laptop.

How do we know that we get apple care activated if it's open box. IE, can I just leave it in the box and not use it for a few years and activate it later or does apple care warranty start immediately?

I got mine today.. it was obviously opened and checked. it says Grade A condition and the cord is wrapped in a zip tie and there are scratches on the back.

That being said, the battery cycle is 2 and it looks great otherwise, so I might keep it if I really can activate apple care for 3 years.

Don't buy a laptop if you're only going to use it as a desktop. You're paying for portability, battery life, and a nice screen that you aren't going to use. A Mac Mini is more bang for the buck in your use case.
