Any links to a $300 16GB card? I'm guessing that is a hard no as well
I mean... if you are willing to simply pay an extra $100 you can get a 7800xt 16gb from Microcenter.

How soon before every single GPU thread is just going be people saying "HOLD THE LINE BOYS!" one after another? My god that got old.....
It is probably about annoying as all of the rubes storming into every GPU thread claiming the prices will be sky rocketing and we better buy NOW NOW NOW
Give me a break, it is all hype, sure prices may increase temporarily for a few months but this time next year everything will be cheaper again. There really is no reason to get gouged by these con artists unless you absolutely MUST build a new PC or upgrade in the next 9 months. Otherwise just buy a GPU next year when 8gbb cards like this will go for ~$200

Sadly not all of us are near enough to a MC. I'd consider $100 well worth the upgrade but I am not going to drive from Raleigh NC to Charlotte to save $100. That's a hard no for me. I think most other people are in the same boat. Everywhere else 12-16gb of extra ram is going to cost at least $200-300 more (outside of Intel GPUs). Money that might be more useful (depending on use case) in 1-2 years spending on a new card, PC, etc as opposed to dumping today because we are trying to "future proof" for needs that we don't currently have and like you alluded to; beat a market that may never come.
Not to mention, many average gamers aren't going to scream if they don't get 1440p @ ultra in every single game for the next 2-3 years. These threads are full of people upgrading 20** or 30** series cards, not trying to replace their 4090 Ti with the next best thing. Different audience, different demands, different budgets.
Heck, invest that $100-300 in Nvidia, there is a better chance you'll make money there than dumping it into a GPU today that likely will lose value the second UPS drops it off at your house...
FWIW, those people screaming 'buy now' are also annoying too but no where nearly as prevalent as the HoLd tHe lInE crew. Their posts would be one after another. Or those endless debates of about hash rates.
And yes, I get it, more $ = more power, but who drives to the Honda dealership to talk smack to all the customers telling them to buy a BMW? Thats what I feel every one of these threads devolve into.

They should just allowing a self upgrade ram module on the card if they're going to start selling 8gb cards like its 2010. Ha.
That actually would be pretty legit, even if the upgrade modules were proprietary, as long as they were semi reasonably priced I am sure there'd be a market for it. That being said, it might allow some people to wait even longer between upgrades which of course AMD and Nvidia wouldn't like.
