These are awesome. Bought two from Woot when they were $14. Work great. They don't fit if you have even the thinnest hard cover on the lower half of your MacBook though. Edit: they work perfectly on my 16" M1 Pro MBP.

why choose these over the dongle variant

would be annoyed if both my tb3 slots accidentally get damaged
