This Frigidaire 5.0 cubic foot chest freezer is being used for meat storage and other overflow food, with reports that it works great and keeps running strong after a couple of years. The smaller size makes sense when a larger freezer stays half empty, and chest freezers are described as the more efficient style. The garage ready design is also noted as handling hot ambient temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The main questions raised are its power draw and a spec page listing an oddly tight 10 to 11 degree Fahrenheit internal range, which is called out as nonsense.
Common Questions (4)
Chest freezers are generally more efficient than uprights, and freezer efficiency tends to vary little by brand. A smaller chest freezer can also save energy if your larger freezer is often less than half full.
Yes. It has been used for storing ribs and steaks and works great for that purpose. The 5.0 cu. ft. size is also a practical fit when you want a smaller freezer instead of keeping a larger one half empty.
Garage-ready freezers are designed to handle ambient temperatures up to about 110°F. That makes this style suitable for a hot garage, including very warm climates like Florida.
A 3-year warranty was offered for an extra $22, and one buyer chose it because their current freezer was starting to struggle after 20 years. It can be a reasonable add-on if you want extra coverage on a budget freezer.

I looked into it when I bought my 7 cu ft. In short: these things vary little from one brand to the next, and are all pretty efficient.
I kinda like that too, easier to get stuff. Does that use a lot of electricity and can I use it in my kinda hot garage in Florida?
