About this product:
  • Screen legends Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins deliver sensational, Oscar-winning performances in this spellbinding thriller based on the bestselling novel by Thomas Harris (Red Dragon, Hannibal). A psychopath nicknamed Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine, Heat) is murdering women across the Midwest. Believing it takes one to know one, the FBI sends trainee Clarice Starling (Foster, The Accused) to interview a demented prisoner who may provide clues to the killer's actions. That prisoner is psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins, Nixon), a brilliant, diabolical cannibal who agrees to help Starling only if she'll feed his morbid curiosity with details of her own complicated life. As their relationship develops, Starling is forced to confront not only her own hidden demons, but also an evil so powerful that she may not have the courage—or strength—to stop it! This terrifying masterpiece co-starred Scott Glenn (The Challenge) and garnered five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Jonathan Demme (Philadelphia) and Best Adapted Screenplay for Ted Tally (Before and After), only the third film in history to sweep these five categories.

Widely considered a poor 4K transfer. One of the only Blu-rays I haven't upgraded yet.

I have both. I'm usually not one to nitpick color timings and marginal differences, as I firmly believe most Internet "experts" could not A/B and blindly identify the differences they rant on about, let alone tell the difference between a Sony OLED panel and an LG OLED panel, even when side by side. And even don't get me started on differences in DACs or cables.

That said, the first chapter or two of this disc clearly suffers from a mastering error. The Arrow disc is a night and day difference, and is clearly evident in things like the green on Jodie Foster's jacket or the unnatural skin tones on Scott Glenn in the opening scenes. You can play one, go get a beer, chug the beer, make popcorn, get another beer, come back play the other, and still see the difference. It doesn't take an A/B comparison to see it. To me, THAT is the kind of difference that's worth spending a few extra bucks on.

If it were my money, I'd get the Arrow version.

I agree especially since the PQ transfer is nothing to write home about & no audio upgrade.

Now if it was criterion version, maybe.
For me just can't see paying $20 for half an upgrade, even if was criterion!

I agree, great movie, but do I need to see it again? Once is enough for me.

I really like the cover art, how they include the secondary poster with Anthony Hopkins. It's a shame the transfer is apparently inferior.

Do you think about what your saying before a thought leaves your brain. if something is a great movie then you would want to watch it over and over again.
