I agree with both you and the other poster BUT as someone who just wants a hammer drill for the occasional light use and who doesn't want to start a new battery system, this makes sense. Good for lightweight use, which is plenty of folks. M12 Fuel is a pretty capable system and SDS is for lighter-duty anyway. 18-volt is obviously better for heavier jobs.

One big pro to this is that it's probably the smallest/lightest unit you can get that has a pure "chisel/hammer" mode. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of sparkies using them to set tapcons and drive ground rods etc. Big red doesn't make tools that don't have a market generally.

Tapcons shouldn't be driven with hammer action. Only the hole should be drilled with it. Common mistake people commit that causes higher chance of stripping the nice clean hole you just drilled.

Guess you haven't drill many holes.

This tool is great if you have to work on a ladder or in a crawl space.

It's not for drilling 1" holes and dropping in Hilti TZ anchors. But you need to put a 1/2" anchor as close to roof of corner of slab and walk it works great.

Most people buying tools are not even professionals in that field. They're tool collectors and speaking up their asses as if they know anything. I have the older model and use it occasionally outside my house to hang anything on my wall or backyard like secure camera and umbrella pole.

Why not just get fuel drill driver with hammer mode. I don't understand this tool unless you're drilling 100s of 1/4" or other similar small holes. Like maybe commercial electrician or plumber constantly hanging pipe.

I've had the predecessor to this for years and it's hands-down one of my best purchases.
Specifically, this is great for any type of tapcon. Wayyyyyy better than the hammer drill you struggle with thinking it's doing an acceptable job. A hammer drill is in no way comparable to and sds drill like this as far as speed and ease go.

I've also used it to drill 5/8" holes 7" plus deep in concrete to embed epoxy anchors. In that case it gets the job done.. maybe not a good as a corded version or an sds-max, but it will do it.

Looking at the photo, this version has a chipping setting, which mine does not (only has rotary). Contemplating getting this one as well.

I'm a contractor, we use rotary hammer all the time, and believe or not, this 12v is our favorite. Very light to hold, and powerful enough to get any 1/4" and 3/16" holes done easily.

A few years ago I built a pergola off my patio and needed to set anchors into the concrete slab. I used my Dewalt drill with a hammer mode thinking that would be sufficient and that thing absolutely shit itself trying to make those holes. It was loud as fark and took forever, it eventually did but man did it suck at it.
