Community Reviews

The TX RZ50 stands out as a strong value AVR for smaller to medium rooms, with Dirac Live onboard, guided setup menus, and enough power to drive demanding speakers cleanly. It is praised for clear, cohesive sound, easy calibration, and solid performance at concert levels, with some owners calling it hard to beat near this price. The main tradeoffs are that the extra two channels matter only if you need them, and reliability and retailer handling have raised concerns in a few firsthand reports. A good fit when you want Dirac and 9.2 channel flexibility without stepping up to RZ70 pricing.

  • Adorama returns can involve delays and deductions such as a 15% restocking fee for items treated as used.

  • Open-box shipments can arrive with physical damage such as broken antennas, dents, and missing protective packing.

  • HDMI behavior can be inconsistent, including trouble with 4K120 versus 4K30 on specific setups.

  • Reliability can be a concern, since an RZ50 can shut down after warranty with a 2L2R warning.

If you're just gonna use the app, the included mic will suffice.

If you use the on line platform which is highly recommended.
Technically you can use the included mic but the umik will be more accurate.
Laptop with umik is the way to go ime.

I chose the wrong item (the one with extra cable and posts). It worked on the AV receiver only. Thanks!

This is the reason why I went to a Best Buy store and had them price match my RZ30 to adorama's price. I read on a post previously that someone had gone to a Best Buy store and did a price match. I tried through a chat online and also a online phone call and both had said that they can't price match to adorama since they are not on their list of places for price matching, but both had said that if you go to the store they are more flexible in price matching. I went 10 days ago to the store and they priced matched adorama's price with no problem at all. Also you know that it is a brand new product from them and if there are issues during the warranty period you can bring it back to Best Buy and they will take care of sending it to Onkyo. I bought mine when adorama had it for $749, so I'm going to see if Best Buy will give an adjustment to the new lower price. I wasn't able to go last weekend when they had the sale for $700. I'm still within the 15 days, but I'm probably pushing my luck for it to happen.
That's awesome. I never wouldve guessed they'd match that. Definitely going to try!

It looks like the store you go to has to have at least a display model for them to consider the price match. It seems that a few others that tried over the past couple of days were not able to get the price match since that store didn't have any.

Rz30 beats it because of the two discrete subwoofer outs... just my opinion ..

This is a great all around for this priceI owned it personally for about 18 months and sold it for about what I paid for itDirac onboard out of the box and if you have a smaller to medium room size , in my ownership experience, there is really little else out there at this price point and capability.
I've got an older rz720 with their tuning software of the time that I think sucks. Its accuEQ is poor. This Dirac works out of the box, eh?

My opinion comes from personal experience.
At average listening levels, if those 8lbs & 20 watts made an audible benefit, didn't hear one.

I would say $150 is a substantial difference here in SD.

Having personal experience with the RZ30 also.
Of those 3, I would easily go with the RZ30 @ current sale price of $700.
Assuming you don't need the extra two channels of course.
Understood. I haven't heard either, just talking generalities- and I ordered the 50 at this sale price. A lot will depend on your speaker efficiency, room size, listening habits, yada-yada. I currently have a Cinema 60 (not a powerhouse) driving 7 speakers in a smaller room, and I've never thought I needed more

So you haven't read ASR's benchmarking of the RZ50?

Getting a 3d party mic like the UMIK1 only makes sense if you plan to work with REW or make use of the PC/MAC version of the Dirac software for easier manipulation of target curves, etc. Otherwise, the included mic is fine for Dirac calibration.
